  • DC Residents: $109,503 (min) - $142.354 (mid) - $175,204 (max)

Location
  • Hybrid. The incumbent must preferably live within a 90-minute radius of San Antonio, Texas to be able to come onsite for ad-hoc needs.

The Software Engineer II develops, maintains, and enhances complex software systems that solve customer and user problems. This role brings breadth across software development skills and depth in specific technologies like languages and frameworks that allows them to build effective software solutions. The Software Engineer II shares in the responsibility with other software engineers and team members to deliver maintainable solutions.

Provide programming services for a variety of specific systems and business, military, scientific, or commercial applications. Participate in systems analysis, design definition, software development, systems test, implementation, and maintenance. Analyze coding problems and develops improvements to procedures. Exercise independent judgment. Design, develop, troubleshoot, debug, and implement software code for a component of the website. Software Engineer needs to address the entire software development lifecycle - to analyze the needs, and then design, test and develop software in order to meet those needs. Experience in Technical Customer Service, Customer Management, and experience in escalations may be required

  • Collaborates with other Engineers and Designers to implement features that meet design specifications and deliver business value.
  • Contributes during all phases of the development lifecycle from task creation to production deployment of new code.
  • Coaches others on the team through code reviews.
  • Seeks and engages peer-reviews of tasks and deliverables; coaches others when reviewing their tasks and deliverables.
Essential Skills, Experience, or Competencies
Must-Have Skills
  • **Must have an active TS/SCI Security Clearance**
  • Strong experience in several modern languages with expertise in designing, developing, troubleshooting, debugging, and implementing high-quality code.
  • A minimum of 4 years of demonstrated Full Stack Software Development experience utilizing Node.js and/or Go (Golang).
    • Demonstrated working experience with at least one front-end technology like React and/or Vue.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with Cypress and MariaDB.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with HTML, Javascript, and the ability to quickly translate designs into well-structured markup and maintainable CSS.
  • Experience in a wide variety of computing environments including cloud (AWS preferred) and containerized solutions (Docker and Kubernetes).
  • Cultivates a "security first" and "test first" approach to test-driven development.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation for implementations.
  • Develop flowcharts, layouts and documentation to identify requirements and solutions.
  • Write well-designed, testable code.
  • Produce specifications and determine operational feasibility.
  • Integrate software components into a fully functional software system.
  • Develop software verification plans and quality assurance procedures.
  • Document and maintain software functionality.
  • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing systems.
  • Deploy programs and evaluate user feedback.
  • Comply with project plans and industry standards.
  • Ensure software is updated with latest features.
  • Proficient in web-development including front-end (browser) and back-end (server) including UI components, client-server integrations, APIs, and data persistence.
  • Proficient with important libraries and technologies in the ecosystem of programming language expertise.
  • Proficient with the unit testing frameworks appropriate to the language of expertise.
  • Experience with building applications in containerized development environments.
  • Expert in basic git actions like cloning, creating branches, navigating between branches, staging code for commit, committing code, resetting, and merging.
  • Demonstrated interest in and ability to learn new systems and technology quickly.
  • Ability to discuss technical tasks and team process topics with team members and outside stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with advanced Git actions like rebasing, squashing, and cherry-picking.
  • Ability to operate and manage work, strategically reason, and build relationships and influence others.
Highly Desired Skills and Experience
  • BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar technology-related degree.
  • Demonstrated working experience with micro-frontend and microservice architectures.
  • Demonstrated working experience with Rust.
  • Experience implementing applications for execution in a containerized production environment; for example Docker in a container orchestration platform like Amazon ECS or Kubernetes.
  • Experience developing applications hosted with a cloud provider such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or similar IaaS/PaaS providers.
  • Experience with test scripting frameworks like Selenium and Cypress.js.
  • Holds a current CompTIA Security+ certification.
