Safety/Health Engineer II/III

Bath Iron Works is seeking an Engineer II/III to join our Safety & Health department. In this role you will be responsible for assisting with the administration and management of occupational health and safety programs within the Safety Engineering discipline in a very dynamic, fast paced shipyard industry.
Duties include but not limited to :
- Identifying workplace hazards and feasible means of abatement;- Providing direction and technical support on compliance with OSHA standards and company procedures- Assisting with establishing and maintaining safety and health programs and management systems- Reviewing the effectiveness of compliance programs- Assisting management and supervision with the recognition and abatement of hazards- Participating in regular scheduled workplace inspections- Developing fall protection plans- Conducting root cause accident and incident investigations and developing subsequent corrective actions- Providing training as necessary
Openings on 1st and 2nd shifts.
Required/Preferred Education/Training- Bachelor's Degree in environmental, safety, and health science or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Specific demonstrated experience in work place health and safety programs/oversight may be substituted for educational requirements.
- 1-5 years of experience in health and safety oversight/programs- Experience in a heavy industrial environment or shipyard preferred- Specific experience in lifting and handling, rigging, fall protection, confined space entry, industrial hygiene and / or ergonomics preferred- Technical writing skills and knowledge of OSHA and/or industry standards preferred.- Must be physically able to lift, crawl, climb, and work in confined spaces and at heights (required).- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and familiarity with Access required.- Strong written and verbal communication skills required- Ability to successfully multi-task and to plan and coordinate time dependent activities required- Good organizational skills, strong interpersonal, team building, and decision making abilities required- Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities required- Ability to establish effective relationships with personnel in all areas and levels of the company required.- Demonstrated training skills required.
