Position Summary

The nurse practitioner for Palliative Care is responsible for the planning, development and provision of service for the Palliative Care Program. The nurse practitioner utilizes advanced knowledge and clinical expertise in providing primary and/or specialized care including: examination, evaluation and recommendation for treatment of patients. Responsibilities include rounding and care of patient's through performance of clinical duties including but not limited to, consultations, ordering of diagnostic tests, prescribing of pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, development of treatment plans to facilitate the continuum of care. The nurse practitioner must effectively communicate and document data relevant to the care of the patients. The nurse practitioner collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcome. The nurse practitioner functions as a consultant, educator, resource and role model for patients, families, the community and nursing staff. In addition, the nurse practitioner, using evidenced based guidelines, assists with the development of the Palliative Care Program.

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Qualifications:

  • Licensure as a nurse practitioner in the state of California
  • Current California RN license
  • Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nurse practitioner program
  • National certification in a nurse practitioner specialty preferred
  • Current AHA BLS & ACLS for Healthcare Providers card
  • Eligible for approval of privileges to practice within the Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center as an Allied Health Professional through the medical staffing office
  • Current DEA registration or eligible
  • Critical Care and Palliative Care experience preferred.
  • NP furnishing license.
  • Hospice & Palliative Care certification preferred.
