PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Provide clinical support to the Jefferson Sleep Disorders Center Team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assessment, diagnosis and case management of patients in the outpatient clinic and inpatient consultation services of the Sleep Disorders Center (SDC) in conjunction with the Collaborating Physician. Maintaining continuity of care for outpatient and hospitalized patients.
  • Conducting evaluations for new and established outpatients and inpatients and ordering consultations and laboratory studies accordingly. Ordering sleep laboratory studies and explaining results and indicated treatments to patients. Conferring with referring clinicians and other practitioners, formulating ongoing reports. Conducting treatment for sleep disorders with a variety of methods, including CPAP, BiPAP, noninvasive pulmonary ventilation, cognitive behavioral therapy, behavioral weight loss, dental appliances, medications, phototherapy, sleep hygiene education, oxygen administration, circadian rhythm adjustment, among others
  • Communicating findings, diagnostic impressions, and treatment plans to outpatients and inpatient in person and by telephone and to referring physicians by telephone and written communications. Documentation of patient interactions in the outpatient and inpatient charting systems
  • Enhancing compliance for patients receiving positive airway therapy, non-invasive ventilation, and other treatment modalities and collaborating with respiratory therapist, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary health team to help meet patient care goals
  • Conferring with members of inpatient consultation team, including physicians, respiratory therapists, technicians, and others, and working with them in a coordinated fashion.
  • Providing education to physician, medical student, and other trainees on service. Developing and providing patient education related to sleep disorders on a one-on-one basis, as well as by organized conferences and community activities
  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the University .
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES needed in addition to Essential Functions:
  • Initiates appropriate evaluation and calls for emergency assistance per established procedures.
  • Attends required meetings, in-services, and educational programs.
  • Maintains competency in technical skills including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that the supervising physician(s) may delegate to the Nurse Practitioner.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
  • NP will participate with other with the goal of delivering cost effective care which demonstrates knowledge of patient payment systems and provider reimbursement systems.
  • When appropriate, supports research by defining clinical research questions, participating and conducting research, and incorporating research finding into proactive.
  • Ability to differentiate between independent and dependent responsibilities within the scope of practice.
  • Will play a key role in organizing the ambulatory & inpatient practice in an efficient, patient-centric, high through-put manner with customer service orientation.
Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS : Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution and current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse (RN) license is required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION : Current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) certificate.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : Two year's experience as a registered nurse is required, preferably in pulmonary, cardiology, sleep, or related area. Written and verbal skills in English language are required. Knowledge of clinical and organization skills/techniques and knowledge of hospital ancillary department functions generally acquired through previous education and/or experience in a related field is required.

INTERNAL/EXTERNAL CONTACTS: Physicians, employees, patients and patient's families, students, instructors, fellows.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION : Work setting may require prolonged standing and manual dexterity, and contact with isolation patients using approved precautions.

Conditions of Employment

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson's clinical entities or at the University.
