Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools,
five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 - 12 th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is designed to promote and foster a learning community to support teachers and school personnel effectively integrating various instructional and behavioral strategies such as applied behavior analysis, structured teaching, and evidence-based practices to support
classroom teachers to meet our students; academic and social/behavioral needs. This position also serves as a consultant to the school personnel and parents of these students with the goal of fostering school-appropriate student behavior and a positive school culture.

The Behavioral Specialist reports to the building Principal.

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Develop system and structure to promote a learning community among teachers, teaching assistants, related service personnel and school administrators.
2. Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school team members to plan and implement appropriate interventions and oversee the implementation of program.
3. Collaborate with and coach classroom teachers in the implementation of curriculum based on grade-level standards.
4. Provide professional staff development and student support to help school personnel identify and understand students identified with social/emotional/behavioral needs.
5. Utilize and integrate various technologies in data collection and analysis, progress monitoring, data tracking as well as to model school team as such.
6. Participate as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team and MTSS Targeted/Intensive Team to assist in developing, implementing appropriate interventions as well as evaluating its effectiveness.
7. Assist in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans (to general ed and diverse learners) to ensure student progress.
8. Model a collaborative learning style with all constituency groups.
9. Collaborate and coach teachers in the development and implementation of social emotional curriculum consistent with student needs and district instructional goals.
10. Maintain digital device skills and continue to expand instructional technology expertise to adapt to changing digital needs and new tools.
11. Participate in professional growth activities leading toward enhancing professional qualifications.
12. Fulfill professional responsibilities such as participation in district program improvement efforts, participation in community and parent groups, and abides by and promotes high ethical standards.
13. Perform other duties as required or assigned by the building Principal.

Qualifications:
1. PEL School Support Personnel or LBS1
2. 3-5 years experience working with students with behavioral challenges, preferred.
3. Knowledge and experience in behavior analysis and mental health treatments, preferred.
4. Experience in developing and implementing behavioral interventions/programs in school, classrooms and individual levels, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes:
1. Communicate effectively in written and oral form using positive interpersonal skills.
2. Ability to integrate technology in professional development and training.
3. Proficient in behavior intervention plan development, implementation, and its evaluation of plan effectiveness.
4. Excellent in conducting functional behavior assessments/analysis.
5. Experience in designing and assessing classroom management systems, and reinforcement systems.
6. Ability to use and model effective instructional strategies and techniques for classroom teachers.
7. Experience in facilitating and implementing individual and systemic interventions.
8. Experience in implementing and integrating technology and assistive technology in working with school teams.
9. Strive to go above and beyond to reach excellence.

Compensation: Salary Structure

Additional Information: May work up to 10 days prior to the start of the school year and 10 days after the end of school year based on District needs.
