Bravo Buddies is a wonderful program that matches young Waukegan students with advanced music students from the Midwest Young Artist Program, area high schools,and colleges for private summer instruction. Join us

The camp is Bravo’s largest running program, with a staff of teachers and over 100 campers. Private lessons are taught to elementary and middle school students by talented high school and college music students, Monday through Thursday, and on Friday the entire camp convenes for a shared musical experience. These experiences are often field trips.

Bravo Waukegan is a non-profit organization located in Lake Forest, IL serving the music program of Waukegan public schools. Bravo Buddies will celebrate its 13th year in the summer of 2024.

BRAVO BUDDIES TEACHER
- Teachers are expected to provide professional, creative lessons to the Bravo Buddies students. The lessons should be positive learning experiences for the campers. Teachers should engage and inspire students throughout the time period of the lesson
- Teacher promptness and attendance is important. If a teacher has an emergency, please contact the program administrator immediately.
- Teachers are expected to be positive role models for students. This includes appropriate dress and behavior. Dress can be casual but appropriate
- Focus should be on student learning, and developing a mentoring relationship during the lessons. IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT THE TEACHER IS THE ROLE MODEL
- During the program, staff may be asked to work as a group on a particular project or activity with their students
- All teachers are expected to work on the Fun Fridays and will be compensated for these days. They are considered to be part of the work week
- Staff is responsible for finding a substitute when necessary within the Bravo Buddies network of teachers
- Teachers will communicate with parents regarding the progress of their students. This can be done informally when students are dropped off or picked up
- Communication is important In addition to parents, please communicate any student concerns with program administrators
- Attendance at any scheduled staff meetings is required
- Staff orientation will take place the Friday before the start of the program, and will run most of the day. We will provide the exact hours so please plan that day accordingly

Specifics:

- Teachers will give 45 minute private lessons
- Session runs for 4 weeks. June 3-June 28
- Lessons are scheduled between 9:00 am-2:00 pm
- Fridays will feature planned, camp wide activities scheduled from 10:00am-1:00pm
- Location: John R. Lewis Middle School, 600 S. Lewis Ave, Waukegan
- Teachers will receive mentoring by a professional teaching artist (musician).
- The program is coordinated by Bravo; staff is on site. Teachers focus strictly on instruction
- A final jam session and wrap up party will be hosted by Bravo on the last day
- Teachers will be required to attend orientation training prior to the beginning of camp
- This position is an independent contractor position and the hire will be required to submit a W-9 form
- Must have transportation, camp is located in Waukegan
