Urology Nurse Manager

Join our team as a Nurse Manager for the Urology department. Here, you will lead a team of nurses and technicians to provide patient-centered care for a wide range of age groups, from neonate to geriatric patients. Your responsibilities will include assigning nursing care and staff, scheduling work assignments, and providing clinical leadership for the team. You will also be accountable for providing safe direct care to an assigned group of patients. Additionally, you will delegate and monitor completion of duties according to departmental and hospital policies, work in collaboration with the healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans, and act as a clinical resource and role model for department personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable.
  • Using independent judgment, assign nursing personnel and staff to specific patients.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards.
  • Designate shift and schedule assignments; assign duties in accordance with the plan of care, patient needs, and within the scope of staff qualifications and licensure/certification/registry.
  • Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives.
  • Act as liaison as necessary between physicians, staff, patients, families, and other departments to promote and facilitate communication, problem solving, decision-making, crisis intervention, resource utilization, and conflict management.
  • Supervise and direct staff providing patient care; accountable for care provided to patients on assigned shift.
  • Delegate and monitor completion of duties according to departmental and Hospitals policies.
  • Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required.
  • Work within Hospitals, Nursing division and departmental policies.
  • Work in collaboration with the healthcare team, implement and document individualized care plans incorporating age specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching.
  • Assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained.
  • Participate in orientation and training.
  • Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients.
  • Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information.
  • Answer telephones and triage calls as per departmental policy.
  • Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops.
  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes.
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner.
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right".
