Summary:

The Certified Surgical Tech/Orthopedic Trauma Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of the Orthopedic Trauma Services program at DHR which includes, but is not limited to: policy implementation, monitoring and evaluation of orthopedic trauma patient care practices; support of the orthopedic program in accordance with all federal, state, and local guideline; and attends orthopedic/trauma injury prevention education opportunities to further support patient care, department needs, and the community.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Operating Room Technician required
  • Continuing education in orthopedic trauma related/clinical care topics
  • BLS certification required upon hire
Some of these certifications may be satisfied by other approved, equivalent courses. These require

Director's approval and will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
  • Good Written and verbal communication Skills required
  • Excellent Customer Service skills required
  • Bilingual preferred - English/Spanish
Responsibilities:
  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
  • Evaluates appropriate care of orthopedic trauma patients throughout the continuum of care
  • Works with physicians, clinical staff and departmental liaisons to ensure ongoing quality care for orthopedic trauma patients.
  • Assists with audit reviews of all orthopedic trauma charts and identifies PI/QI issues.
  • Provides input in continuing education programs for medical staff, nursing staff and other health care professionals providing care to orthopedic trauma patients.
  • Supports staff education in various formats.
  • Helps coordinate regular Orthopedic Trauma meetings
  • Other duties as assigned.
Other information:

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
  • 2 years of Orthopedic Trauma Care experience, 1-year experience in an Operating Room care setting preferred.
  • Experience as a Certified Operating Room Technician.
  • Involves general guidance and direction by the Surgical and Procedural Services Director.
  • Person needs to be a self-starter with little to no supervision needed on an ongoing basis. The Coordinator is expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills with families in crisis.
  • Knowledge of State, Federal, TJC regulations, and Trauma Designation Criteria.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

Provide excellent customer service to all DHR customers. All employees are required to attend the DHR C.A.R.E.S program which outlines the Customer Service Principals including: Commitment, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Service.

AGE SPECIFIC:

Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to his or her age.
