The Career Coach is responsible for planning, developing and providing oversight of program participant goals including expanding personal, practical and professional skill development. Career Coaches will help participants determine career and educational goals, improve job readiness and career exploration skills, identify, place and support retention with local employment opportunities. The Career Coach will provide ongoing support, advocacy and guidance to program participants in order to help overcome personal, legal and professional barriers in order to meet program requirements and individual goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops strong community support and collaborative partnerships. Maintain effective linkages with other program staff, outside agency professionals and other community organizations including program funder.
  • Ensures the quality and integration of program components (job readiness; paid work experience; occupational training; apprenticeships; employer and work site placements; placement and retention services; and follow up services).
  • Assists in developing and monitoring the Individual Opportunity Plan and/or Individual Development Plan (IOP/IDP) and update as goals are achieved/not achieved; support participants with a transition plan upon completion of specific program requirements.
  • Implements curriculum for Professional Skill Development (resume/cover letter/references, professionalism, networking, interview preparation, proper job resignation).
  • Markets and promotes the program in the community to potential employers, training providers, apprenticeship programs and educational institutions; develop and present program presentations.
  • Develops and maintains networks for placement in paid or unpaid work experience, employment, post-secondary, and/or long-term training.
  • Ensures that participants are prepared before going to job interviews and conduct follow-up assessments of attendance and progress.
  • Conducts employer site visits, maintain regular communication with supervisors to ensure program satisfaction, participation and compliance.
  • Completes work site agreement with supervisors, ensure completion of participant performance evaluations.
  • Provides crisis intervention and mediation between participants and work site supervisors, as necessary.
  • Connects participants with employment, post-secondary education, and/or advance training opportunities and follow-up for no less than one year after placement.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with educational institutions and occupational training organizations for possible enrollment and follow up. Link with financial aid resources and the application process/requirements.
  • Makes home visits, as appropriate, to assess needs and support re-engagement of participants.
  • Organizes and maintains written documentation for both participation, employer, educational institutions in case notes and disseminate according to program requirements.
  • Collects supporting documentation and maintain database of placement information, retention milestones, and supportive services.
  • Meets the minimum outcomes per contract requirement which will be reviewed during scheduled supervision and team meetings.
  • Participates in the planning, organization and implementation of special events/department specific projects including job fairs, community fairs, community service learning projects and fundraising events.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of client or collateral interaction within Agency defined standards.
  • Participates in staff training, supervisory and staff meetings.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Exhibits positivity, flexibility and a willingness to provide in service training and take on new responsibilities as requested or required.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Computer literacy skills, including Windows applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic database usage, as well as basic typing.
  • Must be able to exchange information with participants and/or families in various settings regarding program plans and performance of participant.
  • Ability to conduct home visits and transport clients
  • Public speaking, organizational skills and attention to detail.
Performance/Physical Requirements
  • Work consist of walking, bending, stooping, ascending/descending stairs, and remaining in a stationary position 50% of the time, including positioning self to an equal level in order to assist children of all ages.
  • Work environment is based in the community and can include an agency office, school-based setting, child care facilities or participant’s homes.
  • Must be able to drive frequently due to work varying work environments including agency office, school based, community based locations which may include participant homes in various communities.
  • Works flexible hours, which can include days, evenings, and weekends, as desired to meet the needs of clients and the OhioGuidestone and is available for crisis management by phone.
  • Interacts verbally with coworkers, representatives from outside agencies, and families.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and minimum educational level of a High School Diploma/equivalent or higher.
  • Experience providing employment services to low income participants.
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record and valid insurance.
  • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to transport clients.
  • Ability to take and pass a physical exam, tuberculosis test and drug screening.
  • Employment is contingent upon clear results of a thorough background check.
