Overview:
Jenison Public Schools is seeking a skilled and proactive Level 2 Technology Specialist to provide technical support
and assist in the implementation and maintenance of technology systems across the district. Serving approximately
5,500 students and 650 staff members, the ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Apple and Windows
devices, Google Workspace for Education, and a foundational understanding of cybersecurity practices. This
position plays a key role in supporting the daily technology needs of our staff and students, with a particular focus
on Level 2 technology support and assisting the Director of Technology with cybersecurity initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Support & Troubleshooting (60%)
- Provide Level 2 technology support for staff and students, primarily at the high school level.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Apple (macOS, iOS), Chromebooks, Windows operating systems, and various educational software.
- Manage and resolve support requests related to Google Workspace for Education (Docs, Drive, Classroom, Gmail, etc.).
- Assist in the configuration, setup, and maintenance of devices, including laptops, desktops, tablets, and interactive displays.
- Collaborate with Level 1 support staff to escalate and resolve complex issues as necessary.
System Maintenance & Management (20%)
- Assist with the deployment and imaging of operating systems and software updates for Apple and Windows devices across the district.
- Perform routine checks and maintenance on district-managed devices, ensuring optimal performance.
- Support staff and students in managing user accounts and permissions in Google Workspace for Education and other cloud-based services.
Cybersecurity Support (15%)
- Assist the Director of Technology Services in implementing and maintaining cybersecurity protocols for district systems and networks.
- Help monitor and respond to potential security incidents, following district protocols for escalation.
- Support the district's efforts to educate staff and students on cybersecurity best practices, including safe use of online tools, password management, and phishing prevention.
- Assist with regular system audits, software updates, and security patches for district devices and network infrastructure.
Training & Documentation (5%)
- Create and maintain technical documentation and guides for common issues and troubleshooting steps.
- Contribute to the development of technology-related training materials and FAQs for staff and students.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, and/or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a technology support role, preferably in a K-12 educational environment.
- Experience with Apple products (macOS, iOS), Chromebooks, Windows OS, Google Workspace for Education, and basic cybersecurity practices.
Skills & Abilities:
- Willingness to be committed to ongoing learning and keeping up to date with technology trends.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Familiarity with MDM technologies for the management of Apple and Windows-based environments, including device enrollment, imaging, and configuration.
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices (e.g., least-privilege access, zero-trust, multi-factor authentication, endpoint protection, patch management).
- Knowledge of common educational tools and platforms, including Google Classroom, G Suite, and related products.
- Excellent customer service skills, with an ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to providing high-quality customer service to a variety of people including Administration, Faculty/Staff, and Students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP), or Google Certified Educator are a plus.
- Familiarity with district-wide management solutions (e.g., Mosyle, Microsoft InTune, or similar tools).
- Basic knowledge of network security monitoring tools, firewalls, or endpoint protection software.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and transport devices and equipment up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to work in a variety of school environments, including classrooms, administrative offices, and utility rooms.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position, in-person attendance required, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening or weekend hours as needed for system maintenance or project work.
- Travel between district locations is required.
