Description

Under the supervision of the Recreation Division staff, the Recreation Intern will assist in implementing various programs/classes and assisting with programming administrative duties. The Recreation Intern will also be responsible for assisting at department special events and assisting other divisions of the Parks and Recreation Department as necessary. This position works up to 40 hours per week running from May-August.

Examples of Duties
  • Assists in organizing and leading recreation programs and events.
  • Organizes and maintains necessary supplies for programs/activities.
  • Participates in marketing and promotions of programs and services.
  • Assists in maintaining program records and reports.
  • Enforces applicable rules and regulations with program participants and facility users.
  • Responds to public inquiries, suggestions and complaints. Informs management as necessary.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Reliable attendance and timeliness to scheduled shifts.
Typical Qualifications

Student in either a Bachelor's or Master's program in recreation, sports management, or related field; shows a genuine interest in gaining experience in recreation including, but not limited to, personnel management, customer service, events, and programming.
  • Ability to plan and lead recreation program activities.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule including days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to assess people and varying situations, and act accordingly.
  • Ability to positively adhere to and enforce Upper Arlington Parks & Recreation policy and procedures; implement emergency plans.
  • Ability to positively promote the image of Upper Arlington Parks & Recreation
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to give and understand oral and written instructions.
  • Enthusiastically and thoroughly completes projects as assigned by supervisor.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
CPR certification; First Aid certification; valid state of Ohio driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.

The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach with arms and grasp items; or crawl on even and uneven surfaces; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects 25 lbs. or less; occasionally required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects 50 lbs. or less.

Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered light to medium work.
