Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University of Iowa is seeking a results-oriented Project Manager with a passion for leading impactful IT projects. This position will act in various roles, including project liaison and the point of contact, to plan, direct, coordinate, and manage the deployment of small, medium, and large-scale IT projects.

Key Duties to Include:

  • Lead & Collaborate: Represent Information Technology Services in partnerships with management, business, academic and technical users. Serve as the main point of contact and project liaison, developing and fostering relationships across campus to plan, direct, and coordinate IT projects that enhance the university's mission.
  • Strategize & Execute: Analyze project requirements and needs, develop innovative implementation strategies, and provide guidance and oversight to ensure project goals and objectives are achieved on time and within scope.
  • Facilitate & Document: Schedule, plan, and facilitate project meetings, document meeting minutes, capture action items, and monitor project timelines and progress.
  • Consult & Guide: Partner with the Project Management Office (PMO) to provide expert consultation on the ITS and OneIT Governance processes, ensuring alignment with the university's IT governance framework.
  • Report & Reflect: Develop comprehensive project status reports, monitor progress, and deliver insightful close-out reports to stakeholders.
Considerable interaction with university faculty, staff, and outside vendors will require excellent interpersonal skills. This person will report to the Director of the IT Project Management Office in CIO Office Business and Administration Department within the Information Technology Services organization.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Typically 1-3 years of project management experience working on small, medium, and/or large projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to develop and foster positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, SharePoint, Visio, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, transforming technical and business requirements into solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effective, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of management and project team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Proficiency with online collaboration tools such as MS Teams, JIRA, MIRO, Zoom.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Background managing projects in an information technology environment highly desired.
  • Knowledge of established Project Management methodology, processes, procedures, tools and techniques highly desired.
  • Familiarity with Project Management tools such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet or equivalent highly desired.
  • PMP certification or working towards PMP or equivalent certification.
  • Familiarity with writing requirements, documenting workflow and other business process management activities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, TeamDynamix or other Portfolio and Project management software.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects within outlined scope, budget, and timeline.
  • Experience developing and reporting on key performance indicators and project metrics.
  • Experience with process improvement.
  • Adaptability to new technologies.
