Position Summary

Like all HCF team members and volunteers, the Senior Accountant - Operating Fund exudes the heart and passion for HCF's mission: to inspire generosity, advocate for equity, forge connections and invest in community to create a better Hawai'i. Specifically, the Senior Accountant - Operating Fund is responsible for timely and accurate reporting of the balances and activities of HCF's Operating Fund to include review and approval of fund transactions, reconciliation of accounts, preparation and analysis of financial and budget reports. Provides analytical and operational support to other areas of the Finance Department as needed.

Essential Position Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities fall within primary areas of focus and are as follows.

Operating Fund Accounting and Other Support to Finance Team

oResponsible for the accounting records of HCF's Operating Fund to ensure that all transactions are timely and accurately recorded. Responsible for the monthly and annual accounting closing of the Operating Fund including the review, preparation or posting of all required accounting entries, reconciling various general ledger accounts and analysis of accounting reports.

oPrepare and review various adhoc accounting reports to support other HCF departments including:

oMonthly financial reports by cost center

oQuarterly reports of Board of Governor's review.

oApplicable financial information for various other internal and external reporting.

oAssist with the development and evaluation of the Operating Fund budgets and prepare budget variance reports.

oResponsible for monitoring and managing Operating Fund cash flow to optimize operating and investment activities, movement of funds in compliance with policies and procedures.

oProcess semi-monthly payroll for HCF's employees including time entry, prepare payroll journal entries; reconcile payroll related general ledger accounts, process employee withholding remittances and ensure timely payroll tax and W2 filings.

oPrepare various tax and other regulatory filings such as general excise taxes, Hawaii State Ethics Commission Lobbying Expenditures Report and Form 1099.

oPrepare various annual audit and Form 990 schedules.

oAdminister HCF's corporate credit card, air and travel rental car account program activities and ensure the related transactions are recorded timely and accurately.

oImplement and maintain effective internal controls.

oIdentify opportunities for process improvement and implement procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

oSupport ad hoc Finance projects.

Strengthen the Finance Team

oSupport the Finance team by developing workplans, schedules and processes to efficiently and effectively achieve established milestones.

oMotivate top performance and accountability through shared, and clear communication of goals and objectives.

Collaboratively Drive the Success of HCF

oDeliver a collaborative team style internally with colleagues to achieve greater results.

oServe as collaborative partner with all internal departments to ensure comprehensive relationship management and efficiency strategies are utilized.

Other Responsibilities

oServe as a knowledgeable and collaborative representative of HCF in the community.

oPerform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

HCF believes in ensuring that our team members are capable of thriving in their positions. Accordingly, the Senior Accountant-Operating Fund must possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and education:

o Bachelor's degree in accounting required.

oMinimum of 3 years of accounting work experience required. 5 years preferred.

oExperience in payroll rules and electronic processing preferred.

oPrevious work experience in a nonprofit organization and demonstrated understanding of fund accounting concepts and principles, GAAP and FASB standards as they apply to non-profit organizations is a plus.

oAbility to handle sensitive information and act with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.

oAbility to manage competing demands and a high volume of activity - often running concurrently, with excellent organizational/time management skills and attention to detail and accuracy.

oHighly proficient in MS Office applications including Excel, Word and Outlook required and familiarity with database systems.

oExcellent mathematical and analytical skills; able to perform financial analysis and research where input is not clearly defined. Must have the ability to independently problem solve and work towards a successful outcome.

oProven leadership skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.

o Demonstrated passion for the betterment of Hawaii and its people.

oKnowledge, sensitivity, and understanding of the history and complexities of Hawaii's multicultural community.

oCapable of thriving in a highly collaborative and flexible organization with an appreciation and respect for colleagues of diverse backgrounds and perspectives and an enthusiasm to continually shift and evolve to meet the needs of the community, clients, and donors.

oExceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with varied constituents.

oAbility to clearly and concisely communicate in oral and written form.

Work Environment/Physical/Mental Demands:

oWorks under regular office conditions with the ability to work remotely.

oGeneral office hours are M-F, 8:00 to 5:00 pm, with flexible and extended hours as needed.

oRequired to travel as needed

oAbility to operate general office equipment including computer, copier, printers, etc.

oAbility to lift, carry, push, pull, up to 25 lbs. of general office material or equipment
