This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for a Geologist for our Atlanta, Georgia office. The position will be involved in projects with our Site Assessment and Remediation Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. In this role you will manage and participate in environmental projects that involve field studies, report preparation, budget management, and interaction with coworkers, clients, subcontractors, and regulators. Projects will include environmental site assessments and site characterizations involving drilling, soil classification, groundwater sampling and bedrock mapping. The evaluation of groundwater, surface water, soil, soil vapor, and air samples for regulatory compliance and the preparation of corrective action plans for soil and groundwater remediation. Position requires travel and fieldwork. The successful candidate should enjoy identifying new business opportunities and building successful client relationships. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards. Your Impact Participate in a wide range of environmental and engineering projects, from conceptual site model development to design and implementation of remediation and risk management strategies. Conduct environmental site assessments (Phase I and II, UST and other environmentally impacted sites). Lead site investigation, oversee subsurface boring and trenching, and installation of monitoring and remediation wells. Provide guidance with data collection efforts for extracting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from soil, soil gas, groundwater, stormwater, boring logs, and other matrices for investigations, and surveys. Prepare complex data and visualizations such as soil analyses, groundwater modeling, geologic cross-sections, and other illustrations. Ensure regulatory requirement compliance pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention. Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, or clean-up chemical and environmental problems and contamination. Analyze, evaluate, and interpret geologic, hydrogeologic, and chemical data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing corrective action plans. Prepare or direct completion of technical documents including descriptions of investigations, results, conclusions, and recommendations for review by senior staff. Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner. Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, or closely related discipline. Minimum of 4 years of environmental project experience, including task management, proposal writing, client contact, and regulatory interaction. Experience in conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM guidelines and industry standards. Experience with site investigations and remediation of environmental impacts to soil and groundwater. Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements. Experience sampling soil and groundwater via drilling including direct-push, hollow-stem auger, and other similar drilling methods. Experience with soil logging based on the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Experience installing groundwater monitoring wells, remediation wells, and soil gas wells. Experience with software such as gINT, OpenGround Cloud, and ArcGIS. Subcontractor management experience including procuring subcontractor bids, purchase requisitions and scheduling work. Effective at coordinating and assertively directing others in the field such as subcontracted drillers, excavation contractors, utility locators, and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently. Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience writing technical reports and project proposals. Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from test results, data collation, and identify the most cost-effective responses that will minimize waste, prevent pollution, and conserve resources. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER Health and Safety Training (29 CFR 1910.120). Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator / Fit for Duty Exam / Medical Exam. Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening. Preferred Qualifications: Essential professional licensure/certification (GA P.G. or ability to obtain license). Experience with groundwater and plume modeling software, such as MODFLOW, MODPATH, and/or MT3DMS, and associated interface/processing packages, such as Groundwater Vistas.
