Position Description:
The position works under the Manager of Adjustments and Operations Department with responsibility of leading a quality inspection process to mirror individual Vendor criteria. This party will have working knowledge and ability to perform all duties assigned to a tire inspector, provide leadership and standardized operating procedures for the returns center team and also coordinate communication between Vendor, DC's and ATD corporate departments in the Manager of Adjustment's absence. Also serves as the primary contact for specified return center customers for extraordinary requests. This position also manages the broad range of logistics functions on a continuing basis.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist Manager of Adjustments with daily operational functions and compliance of internal audits to ensure standardized inspection processes are followed to vendor requirements as well as TIA compliance. Includes evaluating both administrative and inspection functions and assisting with reports to management providing information on standards and problems that may require strengthening of internal standards.
  • Continuously reviews internal documents to determine if an audit trail exists for all inspections.
  • Assist Manager of Adjustments with merger and acquisition adjustment process as needed, may require some travel.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret Vendor technical bulletins and other internal Company reports and/or NHTSA regulations.
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of tire/wheel inspection guidelines and procedures.
  • Knowledge of profit and loss calculations and basic business finance (percentages and calculations), to ensure credit to customer is offset by credit from Vendor.
  • Must possess excellent knowledge of current materials, methods, tools and equipment specifically associated with tire adjustments (including Hunter mounting and balancing machines.
  • Must possess excellent time management and organizational skills and have the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet Vendor requirements.
  • Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to supervise and delegate work to subordinates as needed.

  • Education: Minimum High School/GED
  • Preferred: Minimum requirements plus 2 years of failed tire and wheel inspection.
  • Experience: sufficient to work under general supervision
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Company, in its discretion, may find appropriate and acceptable.
Key Competencies:
  • Provide technical evaluation for tire, tube and wheel returns. Enter findings in system Z and Oracle. Retrieve credit out of On Base. Comprehensive knowledge of Hunter balancer and mounting machine.
  • Manage all logistical processes on a daily basis.
  • Ensure team achieves established goals while thoroughly and continually reducing the backlog.
  • Establish and Maintain American Tire Distributors standard of inspection quality and service to meet the unique Vendor standards and warranties.
  • Manage individual DC and customer inquiries pertaining to warranty and inspection processes.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of inspection, pricing and vendor programs in place and available to customers.
  • Training of internal and external customers on the processes involved in the decision making process for all returns based on individual Vendor criteria.

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools; lift with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear, taste and/or smell; the employee must lift and/or move up to 150 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild.
  • Travel required: 10% of the time.
