Assignment Information:
The annual assignment for this 0.2 FTE position starts two weeks prior to the start of the school year and ends two weeks after the end of the school year.
This position is not part of a bargaining group and will be placed on an individual letter of assignment.
Summary/Primary Objective of Position:
Under the supervision of the Middle School Principal, this position supports and prepares all students by cultivating individual student confidence, courage, academic success, and supporting their aspirations both in and outside the walls of Minnetonka Middle School West.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide academic coaching to students including mentoring, acting as a liaison between student and teachers and grade checks/goal setting.
- Provide social/emotional support along with the counselor to students.
- Assist building administrators in creating a climate that supports and welcomes all students and families to the school district and helps to raise awareness of MMW programming, student supports, and community events.
- Develops preventative plans to reduce barriers to student success and ensures that all students maximize their time at MMW.
- Provide support and leadership to ensure that MMW continues to cultivate an inclusive, welcoming and supportive environment.
- Provide support for various student groups including BIPOC students, Men/Women of Color group
- Support Belonging groups including Staff, Students, and Family groups.
- Provide parent outreach, arrange for and visit homes to escort student to school in cases which require intervention
- Collaborate with administration with investigations and/or crisis situations
- Will practice and support Restorative Circles
- Foster a culture that appreciates and celebrates individual identities and amplifies student voice
- Collaborate daily with the Lead Academic and Student Support Coordinator and the Student Support Team in weekly meetings
Qualifications:
- BA Degree in the Social Work or Psychology
- Experience working with students in grades 6-8
- Ability to effectively facilitate and/or participate in team meetings and parent meetings.
- Demonstrated skill in student behavior management and organization.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, ability to sufficiently convey and receive information and work direction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
- Excellent human relations skills in a variety of professional settings, including conflict resolution with youth and adults, small and large group facilitation skills
- Committed to promoting a learning environment that is welcoming and inclusive for each student both in and outside of the classroom.
- Committed to fostering belongingness and responsive teaching and learning environment.
