JOB SUMMARY

Conduct / Direct engineering activities related to product design of cooling systems, release CAD models and drawings, engineering specification reviews, engineering cost estimates, development timing, and supporting validation / verification for appropriate projects. Functions involve resolution of supplier design issues, root cause analysis, countermeasure evaluation, engineering reviews, data analysis, evaluation of potential engineering changes, assembly plant problem resolutions, and coordination of component timing. Provide engineering assistance to Isuzu related companies and departments as necessary.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

50% 1. Evaluates technical content of cooling system designs and engineering changes, improves quality, reduces cost, makes effective decisions, verify vehicle integration, and meets schedules while considering a wide range of alternatives. Reports activities and decisions to Sr. Engineer, assigned mentor and/or management for direction and/or approvals.

10% 2. Communicates effectively with Isuzu Japan engineering, suppliers, production facilities, joint venture partners and other parties based on teamwork concepts. Creates SOR documents for suppliers.

10% 3. Coordinates with suppliers or other departments to achieve established program / system targets on schedule. Leads product development team meetings with suppliers.

5% 4. Analyzes new technologies and trends. Prepares reports and research findings to management in both the U.S. and in Japan.

5% 5. Maintains and coordinates assigned projects and related schedules.

5% 6. Assists and consults with other Isuzu departments and companies, sharing technical documentation to support Isuzu's collective objectives.

5% 7. Investigates North American (NA) Commercial Vehicle competitors' vehicles or specific subsystems for competitive engineering research. Prepares presentations for reviews and information sharing.

5% 8. Attends technical events/meetings at Isuzu vendors, assembly plant, Isuzu Japan and others.

5% 9. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
  • Reports to: Supervisor or Manager, Commercial Vehicle Engineering

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Minimum three years of experience in automotive cooling system product design engineering or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE
  • Development process of automotive cooling system parts
  • Automotive parts knowledge for material selection (metal, plastic, textile), production processes, test methods, regulations, and component/sub-system design development process
  • Familiarity with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)/American Standard Test Method (ASTM)
  • CAD/CAM design systems; Siemens NX & TcAE or similar
  • Familiarity with simulation software and common diagnostic equipment
SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Proficient PC skills in Windows applications/Microsoft Office and presentation applications
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to sketch plus interpret drawings and 3D virtual designs
  • Investigative and research skills such as benchmarking, internet search techniques, etc.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to obtain and keep a commercial driving license and medical certificate

PHYSICAL STANDARDS

The employee must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer. This is primarily a sedentary position in a controlled office environment which requires only occasional reaching, stooping, and lifting of office files, reports or records, typically weighing 5 lbs. or less. Requires occasional light lifting (5-25 lbs.) and on rare occasions, heavy lifting (60 lbs.). Must be able on rare occasions to bend, crawl, climb, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level in the performance of job duties. Position requires 10% domestic travel to suppliers and assembly plant, that may including overnight stays.

Pay scale for this position is between $83,032 and $105,866. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
