Job Summary:

The Cost Accountant is based at Bell and Howell's Durham, NC HQ office and reports directly to the Controller. This position has overall responsibility for determining inventory carrying cost values and analyzing cost center expenditures related to the Durham facility and manufacturing operations activities. This position is responsible for tracking and reconciling inventory, maintaining and updating inventory carrying costs in SAP, working with external auditors to provide audit documents to support costing and providing senior management with inventory trend and commentary on monthly changes on inventory value analysis.

*Cost Accounting experience is a must*

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepares balance sheet reconciliations, inventory and operational spending analysis, and other financial reports.
  • Updates SAP inventory unit cost, analyzes inventory trends, compares inventory carrying costs to future purchasing obligations, and research PPV entries to adjust costing when required.
  • Budgets, forecasts, and analyzes facility and manufacturing organization's finances working with management, and offers suggestions about resource utilization, cost strategies, and assumptions regarding underlying budget/forecasts.
  • Assess manufacturing labor rate applied to materials made internally recommending changes to manufacturing operations management if required.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Works under immediate supervision.

  • Knowledge of SAP, Excel, Access and Word.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, quantitative, and time management skills.
  • Ability to interpret Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company accounting policies and procedures using independent judgement and accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand, remember and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work as an integral part of a team.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance/business or related field required, or equivalent experience required.
  • A minimum of 2 years' relevant cost accounting experience required, with strong financial skills required.
  • Experience with SAP software preferred.

Travel:

  • This position does not require travel.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift to waist up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
  • Ability to type on a keyboard.
  • Ability to hear and talk.
  • Ability to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Requires close vision for computer work and reviewing correspondence.
  • Work is performed in a controlled office and manufacturing environment, noise levels within acceptable safety levels, paper dust, etc.
