Medical Liaison

Reports to: MiLB Medical Coordinator
Classification: Part-time (Temp)
Summary/Objective:
The Houston Astros are seeking an individual to serve as part-time Medical Liaison. This position will require regular collaboration with MiLB and MLB Medical and Rehab Coordinators, Affiliate Athletic trainer(s), team physicians, colleagues within SM&P, as well as other staff and front office members. The start date will be ~February 15, 2025, and will run through the completion of the Minor League Affiliate Seasons (~Sept. 15).
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

- Collaborate with MiLB and MLB Operations staff on travel logistics for players
- Scheduling of appropriate medical appointments
- Oversee Houston Methodist Platinum Services & Security to assist as needed for player medical appointments
- Accompany players to medical appointments
- Maintain high level of communication with Major League Medical Coordinator, Minor League Medical Coordinators, MiLB Rehab Coordinator, and Risk Management
- Adhere to the organization’s policies and procedures as outlined in the Astros Handbook, SM&P Handbook, Medical Department Handbook, and direct communication from the Director of Sports Medicine and Performance
- Other duties assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine and Performance
- Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Management
- Workers Compensation Management
- TUE Management
- NATA-BOC Certified and in good standing
- Eligible for TX state licensure
- CPR/AED certification required
- Bilingual (Spanish) is an asset, but not required
- Bachelors in Athletic Training
Work Environment
Position will work in an office and stadium environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision. Work is medium physical demand. Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects. Medium strength is required to position patients for examination. May assist patients as needed, helping them on and off the exam table.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Travel:
Frequent travel within the Houston area is required.
