REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

JOB OR POSITION SUMMARY: Working in cooperation with appropriate district supervisors, teachers, parents and students, shall be responsible for providing diagnostic and intervention services for students with speech, language and hearing disorders helping students to adjust and access the general education curriculum.

LICENSING/CREDENTIAL AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  1. Master's degree in education or related field required.
  2. Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Secondary Education in subjects listed below or subjects or Alternative Teaching Certification as approved by Oklahoma State Department of Education required
* Speech-Language Pathologist or Speech Pathologist
  1. Knowledge of speech/language needs of individuals form 3-21 years of age.
  2. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  3. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, follow state and district guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • evaluates and assesses the student's functional status to identify and determine needs for speech/language therapy
  • Selects, administers, and interprets standardized, normed speech-language testin materials and infomral assesements.
  • Conducts obesrvations of students in classroom or other school enviroments
  • Complete elgibiltiy paperwork and develops initial individualized education plans
  • .Presents evaluation results and IEP during set meeting dates
  • Serves as a member of interdisciplinary teams and participates in staffing, eligibility, and IEP meetings.
  • Serves as a resource to staff members regarding speech/language sexrvices and proper procedures for the identification and referral of students
  • Adheres to legal and ethical standards and guidelines regarding the provisions of speech-language services
  • Maintains good records for each student
  • Tequisitions needed supplies and equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  1. Knowledge of subject matter/course content and resources relevant to assignment.
  2. Knowledge of and skills in using effective instructional strategies and practices.
  3. Knowledge of and skills in administering, scoring and interpreting communication assessments.
  4. Knowledge and understanding of child development and communication development.
  5. Knowledge of and skills in best practice instruction specific to various disabilities.
  6. Skills in managing and promoting positive student behavior.
  7. Skills in data analysis to assess, monitor, and inform instruction for student growth.
  8. Skills and abilities in organization, time management, and record keeping.
  9. Ability to operate a computer and the skills to learn and utilize software and other technology in instruction.
  10. Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other professionals in a team setting.
  11. Ability to interact positively and effectively with parents, students, staff, and administrators.
  12. Ability to maintain confidentiality.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

In an eight-hour work day, the employee must sit, stand or walk for varying lengths in order to properly supervise students throughout the school building as required. Job requires occasional bending/stooping or squatting/crouching to interact with students at their desks, on the floor or at eye level. Job requires occasional carrying/lifting up to ten pounds to transport instructional materials or files to other parts of the building. Employees must possess manual dexterity sufficient to write and type. Employees must possess enough visual ability to supervise students in the classroom, hallways and large areas. Employees must possess the hearing ability to supervise students and to interact with students individually and in group settings. Employees must possess speaking requirements enough to communicate with parents/teachers and to supervise students throughout the school building. Employees must have mobility enough to supervise students throughout the day. Employees must have a mental requirement to read, understand, and interpret special education guidelines, communicate with parents, and schedule appointments.
