JOB TITLE: Activities Director

DEPARTMENT: Activity

REPORTS TO: Administrator

Responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operations of the Activity Department. Responsible for directing and managing an on-going program of activities is designed to meet, in accordance with assessments, the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of all residents.

• Plan, organize, develop and direct the activities programs of the facility.

• Develop, administer, and coordinate department policies and procedures.

• Maintain a working knowledge of all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as professional standards, in relation to resident care.

• Develop and effectively implement policies and procedures for the identification of medically related activity needs of the facilities residents.

• Participate in community planning related to the interests of the facility and the services and needs of the residents.

• Participate in planning relating to resident discharge and resident assessments.

• Interview residents, and resident families, as necessary and in a private setting to address needs.

• Perform administrative duties relating to the Activity Department and compile reports for review by the Administrator.

• Provide consultation to fellow staff members and community agencies to meet the needs of the facilities residents through the development of activity programs.

• Make recommendations to the Administrator concerning the development and operation of the Activity Department.

• Manage employment related efforts for the department, including hiring, performance management, scheduling, training, separations, etc.

• Ensure appropriate and compliant health and safety standards are being always met by the Activity Department.

• Manage budget responsibilities for the Activity department, including recommendations for equipment, supplies, and related departmental needs.

• Maintain positive relationships internally, with specific attention to residents, as well as with external vendors.

• Develop a standard for resident activity plans, paying close attention to the needs of all residents.

• Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information.

• Regularly participate in various committees as a representative of the Activity Department.

• Participate in continuous improvement activities.

• Other duties as assigned.

• Associates Degree or two years of college level course experience required.

• Must be a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional who is licensed by the appropriate state and is eligible for said certifications; or

• Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a social or recreation program within the last 5 years; or

• Must be a qualified occupational therapist.

• 2 years of supervisory experience required.

• Ability to work well in both a team-based environment and an independent manner.

• Must have the ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish this job.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and multi-tasking skills required.

• Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, lead and direct the work of others.

• Must be capable of performing the essential job functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Possess stellar communication skills, demonstrating patience, empathy, and care for residents and their families.

• Related administrative experience at a level necessary to accomplish the job.

• Must meet all local health regulations and pass post-employment physical exam, if required. This requirement also includes drug screening, criminal background investigation, and reference inquiry.

Physical and Sensory requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices): Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, fine-hand coordination, pushing and pulling; ability to communicate with residents; ability to distinguish smells and temperatures; ability to read and write; and ability to remain calm under emergency situations and while dealing with multiple tasks.

SHIFT:

Full time Monday - Friday 8AM-5:30PM

Manager of the Day, Once a month on the weekend
