Job Description Summary: "Social worker" is a full-time role for a qualified, compassionate, Christian individual. At Cookson Hills, social workers are expected to provide case management to our children and supervision of houseparents. The ideal candidate must be willing to live on campus, serve "on-call" weekends, and continually improve processes. Social workers work alongside houseparents, teachers, and other team members to ensure we are providing the holistic opportunity each child needs for a well-rounded future.

Minimum Qualifications: The qualifications listed below are required for an applicant to be considered for the role of Social Worker.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, family or social services, or related field from a four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Residence: Must reside in on-campus housing to perform the role's essential duties. (No more than four children living in the home.)

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software, such as Google Docs and Calendar, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.

Driving Skills: Valid driver's license in good standing with willingness and ability to transport children.

Faith Beliefs: Demonstrate Christian faith and practice, agreeing with and abiding by the Cookson Hills Statement of Faith and Lifestyle Agreement provided on the employment application.

Work Environment: The work environment represents what an employee typically encounters while performing the essential functions of this job; i.e. office work and various locations for meeting and interacting with houseparents and children (residential childcare homes, school settings, outdoor settings, etc.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and other duties as assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Case Management: Social Workers are responsible for case management services to children placed in residence. This includes maintaining up-to-date progress notes and discourse with relevant team members, setting up custodial family visits, obtaining feedback on visit progress, and processing with students on their Plan of Care progress. Also,

  • Counsel students whose home behavior or school progress requires assistance.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine the problems' causes and help devise effective solutions.
  • Serves as liaison between student, home, school, and community resources such as the custodial family, contract counselors, other family service agencies, parole officers, doctors, pharmacies, etc.
  • Administer disciplinary actions, as directed, for significant incidences.

Supervision of Residential Families: Social Workers directly supervise houseparents. They carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Cookson Hills policies. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, directing work, evaluating performance, giving appreciation, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. They provide support for ongoing childcare issues and feedback on houseparent growth. Additionally, they provide feedback and brainstorm solutions with houseparents and staff whose attitudes and behavior systemically create or aggravate problems.

Crisis Intervention: Social Workers assist in crisis management for families on their caseload during business and non-business hours during the week.

On-call Social Worker Support: Social Workers assist all childcare families with crises during scheduled monthly weekend support.

Continuous Process Improvement: Social Workers assist the Director/Manager of CFS in continual process improvement, including CFS projects, research, and training.

Event Coordination and Supervision: Social Workers assist the Director/Manager of CFS in event planning as necessary. This will include but is not limited to, houseparent training, the annual banquet, and houseparent appreciation events.

Cash Compensation: Paycheck reflecting wage/hours worked is paid on a bi-weekly basis. Overtime will be paid for on-call work exceeding 40 hours/week.

Cell Phone & Internet Stipend: Social Workers may submit a monthly reimbursement request for cell phone expenses and internet expenses not to exceed a maximum total of $25 for cell phone and $75 for internet.
