This position is a limited duration anticipated to last 24 months, though, may be extended or decreased due to business need. Internal candidates may be considered as a job rotation with their current manager's approval.

This position is located onsite in at our Central Services office in Salem, Oregon.

About the Job:

Your Role:

This position is responsible for designing, constructing, programming, troubleshooting, secreting, and maintaining the routers, switches, modems, LANs, and WANs within the department. You will work on an enterprise level supporting other state agencies who connect to the Department of Corrections WAN to partner with our team.

You will work with stakeholders throughout the state ensuring best business practices and the security of the network while continuing to modernize and optimize the departments technology.

This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Six (6) years of information systems experience in network engineering
OR
  • An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND
four (4) years of information systems experience in network engineering

OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND
two (2) years of information systems experience in network engineering

OR
  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field may substitute for all of the above.

Working Conditions:

Working in a standard office environment with extended use of computers and other office technology. Use of video meeting software. Contact with adults in custody. Some travel may be necessary within the state.

It advises and evaluates counties regarding administration of probation and parole programs supervising more than 24,000 offenders in Oregon communities. The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect and additional 6.95%. The State of Oregon provides a generous benefit package, which includes family health and dental insurance, optional short and long-term disability and term life insurance - all of which can be tailored to individual needs. Also provided are fully paid retirement program, modest life insurance policy, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave. What to Expect:
  • After the application deadline, a recruiter will review applications education and experience to identify candidates that best fit the minimum qualifications and requested skills.

  • Interview will be held with a panel of stakeholders who have completed panel assessment training. Scores will be determined based on predetermined questions and scoring guides. Preferences points will be applied in compliance with relevant laws and bargaining agreements. There may be multiple rounds of interviews.
  • Final candidates will have a background check, PREA check, and reference checks.
  • A Classification and Compensation analyst will review the Workday Application of the successful candidate to determine starting wages in compliance with Oregon Equal Pay Act.

Requirements for Employment

You must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following convictions are likely to result in being disqualified for this position: felony convictions, computer theft, identify theft and fraud. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer.
