Job Summary

Through effective case management and the coordination of care between campus and community resources, the case manager will provide services designed to minimize the impact of mental illness or emotional distress on the academic and personal pursuits of students. The case manager also serves on the Leo Cares team, provides crisis intervention, consultation and psychological programming for Lindenwood University students.

Job Responsibilities and Execution
  • Participates on the Leo Cares team, coordinating between Student Counseling Resource Center (SCRC), Leo Cares team, and referrals to community providers to establish best standards of care services for students in need.
  • Assists/refers students to mental health care services in the community when they need higher levels of mental health treatment or on-going longer-term therapy.
  • Meets with students upon return from higher levels of mental health treatment and assists students with care coordination. Monitors and follows up with students who have unique mental health concerns that require coordination of care.
  • Participates as part of clinical administrative team, aiding with managing intake, triage and emergency systems, staffing teams and consultation regarding community referrals and insurance
  • Provides culturally sensitive individual counseling to a diverse student body that presents with a variety of challenges including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, substance use, eating disorders, trauma, suicidal ideation and academic/family- related stressors
  • Develops relationships with area mental health providers and support networks
  • Supervises graduate interns
  • Assists the director with overseeing the administration of personnel management policies and procedures of the SCRC
  • Develops and maintains a database of referral and community resources
  • Maintains data on the amount of usage per term
  • Maintains an active role in the development and implementation of the SCRC's strategic planning, objectives and goals, as well as those for the Student Life and Diversity, as needed
  • Assists with strategically marketing the SCRC to students, faculty and staff

Communication, Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Consults with parents, physicians, faculty, academic deans, residence life staff, off-campus counseling services, other campus offices and students, when appropriate, and with appropriate authorization, in order to provide quality care to students
  • Follows up to ensure that clients are appropriately assessed, successfully referred and compliant with treatment recommendations
  • Communicates all duty to warn issues
Job may require other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
  • Master's degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work or mental health counseling
  • Licensed or license eligible
  • Minimum of two years' full-time professional, post-master's experience in providing psychological services (individual and group) in a college/university counseling center setting

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Demonstrated understanding of campus resources available to support student needs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and relationships with community providers for the facilitation of referral to mental health care outside of the SCRC
  • Demonstrated understanding of the community mental health systems, insurance, hospitals, treatment facilities, etc. to facilitate student access to higher levels of care
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of higher education case management and care/behavioral intervention teams
  • Experience developing and implementing training programs, presentations and/or educational opportunities for students, faculty and staff
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience with college student developmental theory and the unique concerns of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of professional ethics related to mental health and higher education Strong leadership skills, including decision-making, collaboration, organization and case management
  • Strong written communication skills including accurate and thorough documentation
