Overview

Provide individual and group counseling and education programming to students to promote mental and emotional health. Assist in retaining current students by addressing career, academic and psychosocial factors such as addictions, substance abuse, family, parenting, marital problems, stress management and self-esteem. Collaborate with internal and external resources as appropriate.

Responsibilities Evaluate students seeking assistance regarding challenges that may impede their ability to be successful within school; collaborate with student to develop an appropriate action plan. Offer crisis intervention services to students presenting in distress and collaborate with campus community to ensure student safety is maintained and care matches level of need. Manage student counseling needs through providing individual or group treatment, conducting risk assessment and risk management, collaborating with Access and Accommodation Services, and responding to student success referrals. Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs on students’ progress in resolving identified problems and moving toward defined objectives. Collaborate with BTC’s Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), faculty/staff and/or student services to identify students in need of services and connect them to appropriate resources. Provide consultation to faculty and staff relating to student concerns, responding timely to STARFISH referrals. Conduct educational, outreach, and/or training programming for the campus community. Plan and implement campus wide awareness events throughout the year. Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies and provide referral services to outside community agencies as necessary (i.e., financial literacy, Community Action, etc.). Manage the emergency assistance funding programs on campus in partnership with the BTC Foundation. Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to promote services to college community. Maintain professional student records in accordance with ethical and legal standards and College policy. Provide grant management and grant reporting for applicable grants. Identify new developments and best practices in counseling by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, or establishing and maintaining contact with other community agencies. Maintain ethical and professional standards. Partner and collaborate with the CARE Center Team on student retention and assistant related activities. Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Working experience working with the needs of diverse populations. Knowledge of student-development and counseling theory. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Maintain Confidentiality with knowledge of Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Education & Experience:

Master’s degree in counseling, Guidance, or related field. Two years occupational experience in field, preferably in a higher education/academic setting. Licensed in State of Wisconsin as a Licensed Professional Counselor preferred. Experience in community/mental health preferred.

Blackhawk Technical College does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.
