Job Description:

- The facility is a Level III Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and Magnet Designation, also recognized as a Comprehensive Stroke Center.
- The unit has 933 beds, with 23 dedicated to this specialty.
- COVID-19 vaccination is required.
- Patient types include general Med/Surg populations such as COVID, wound care, COPD, CHF, diabetes, and chest tubes, but no pediatric patients.
- Patient ratios for RNs are 3-5 during the day and 6-8 at night, while tech ratios are 6-8 for both day and night.
- Preferred skills include experience with cardiac drips like Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, and Dopamine.
- Support on the unit includes charge nurses who take patient assignments, a unit secretary (0500-0130), a hospitalist available 24/7, and RT available 24/7.
- There is centralized telemetry monitoring with no tele tech, and assistance for peripheral blood draws comes from phlebotomy.
- EPIC is the preferred charting system, with Alaris and Pyxis as equipment.
- Floating is required to all other MedSurg areas and ED Holding with a 1:4 ratio, with travelers being the first to float.
- Orientation involves 1-2 shifts based on comfort level.
- Weekend rotation is every other week while block scheduling may be accommodated but isn't guaranteed.
- Up to 7 days off can be approved with management approval needed for additional time off.
- Holiday scheduling is expected to be every other holiday.
- Scrub colors are flexible except for camo or denim.
- RNs must document pain levels before and after administering pain medications (1 hour for oral meds). The pain score must align with the medication order; for example, if a patient's score is 8 and Tylenol is ordered for mild pain (1-3), the RN must call for a new order if Tylenol for a score of 8 is needed.
