Clinical Nurse Lead

Under the general direction of the Chief Nurse Executive and direct supervision of the director and in accordance with the nursing practice standards of care and practice established by the Nursing Organization and by the specific unit/department in accordance with the rules, and regulations and/or standards established by the State Board of Nursing, DNV and appropriate specialty organizations relevant to the patient population under care, the Clinical Nurse Manager performs the follows:
Clinical Management:
- Shared responsibilities for the clinical operations of the unit/department with EP manager.
- Provides direct supervision of nursing, and other patient care providers and support staff.
- Evaluates staffing patterns and adjusts to meet patient care needs.
- Provides direction and coordination during emergency situations.
- Collaborates with the EP Manager, physicians and interdisciplinary team to address patient related issues as needed.
- Displays an ability to act as a resource for patient care areas when acuity and census outweigh resource availability.
- Supports staff during times of difficult transitions and change.
- Serves as a change agent assisting others in understanding the importance, necessity, impact and process of change.
- Ability to identify risk management issues and consults with appropriate resources when necessary.
- Has a working knowledge of the chain of command policy.
- Supervises and evaluates work performance of nursing staff of patient care and staff development. Ensures timely and effective evaluations.
- Participates in the hiring process.
- Participates in personnel matters to include: disciplinary, transfer, suspension, promotion and termination.
- Facilitates problem solving and conflict resolution with the staff.
- Participates in the evaluation of the clinical competency of staff.
- Assists the unit educator and preceptors with oversight and coordination of new employee orientation.
- Shows respect for the individual, concern for employee education and career development, and provides an atmosphere in which employees are encouraged to be creative and independent.
- Leadership style should demonstrate effective communication skills, organization commitment, customer orientation, team orientation, and flexibility.

- Participates and/or facilitates unit and organization wide interdisciplinary committees to design and implement change and performance improvement.
- Identifies needs for the development of quality management projects.
- In collaboration with the director, establishes patient care quality improvement goals and objectives.
- Promotes interdepartmental/intradepartmental communication.
- Participates in the design of safe clinical systems, processes, policies and procedures.
- Promotes a non-punitive reporting environment and a rewards system for reporting unsafe practices.
- Ability to articulate and take action in support of the DNV patient safety goals.
- Displays superior customer relations and proactively identifies and responds to patient and family needs.
- Establishes appropriate nurse patient ratio according to acuity of assignment.
- Plans for efficient utilization of supplies and equipment.
- Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care.
- Consistently adjust staffing and resource use to match fluctuating volumes and nursing skill mix.
- Supports implementation of staff education plans.
- Serves as a resource to other units and disciplines.
- Performs similar and/or related duties as directed.
Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate from an approved school of nursing.
- Minimum BSN required.
- Previous management experience in an Assistant Nurse Manager or Permanent Charge Nurse capacity preferred.
- Minimum three to five years of relevant direct EP nursing care experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Current registration in the State of NH as a Registered Nurse.
- Certified as RCES/RCIS specialty area preferred.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required. Must maintain BLS throughout employment.
