If you like disrupting the norm and are looking to join a company revolutionizing an industry then you will LOVE what Carvana has done for the car buying experience. Buying a car the old fashioned way sucks and we're working hard to make it NOT suck. I mean, have you seen our vending machine?
We are looking for people who are excited to thrive in an environment of impactful change. Team spirit is evident at Carvana and everyday we let our passions and creativity foster innovation. We take big swings, set ambitious goals, and challenge each other to make data and process-driven decisions in everything we do. We've been changing the game since 2013, and we're not taking our foot off the gas now.
About the team and position
We're looking for a conceptually and technically driven Senior Art Director who can think up big, juicy ideas that are strategically on-brief. Who loves the power of an idea and what a good story is comprised of. Who knows the importance of their produced ideas making an impact on a company's business goals. Who's constantly pushing to refine their ideas to be as strong as possible.
Being web-savvy isn't enough, you should know your way around different social media apps with your eyes closed. Sense of humor isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a must. You should also have an insatiable curiosity to holistically, strategically and creatively think up ideas, fully develop them and roll your sleeves up to make'm happen. You'll be working in a supportive team environment. Collaborating with many different people within the brand team and other teams around Carvana. While you will be working closely with your Creative Director, it's important you have the ability to lead the thinking of your projects and work alongside other project stakeholders. If you join forces with us, you will find yourself exposed to a lot more than what the creative department is traditionally shown. You'll be rapidly learning all about Carvana's ins and outs, data analytics and producing work that will make you proud. You can sit up close and witness the direct impact of your efforts, while gaining valuable insight into how your ideas perform. Hardwork is a must, as is a passion for creating and writing in different voices.
What you'll be doing
- Consistently generate fresh ideas solving for the communication objectives of the creative brief.
- Partner with a copywriter and marketing team to conceptually think through business problems and develop strategically-minded ideas to solve them through art & copy.
- Development of brand- and product-level creative concepts and layouts across multiple mediums (TV, short film, digital, PR acts, social, mobile, brand behaviors, radio, print, customer experience and product).
- Own the review, edit and overall development of content during all phases of your projects.
- Consistently unearth new ideas, production solutions, content trends and tech developments to aid and inspire the development of best-in-class creative.
- Ability to design consistent with Carvana's brand and style.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor's degree is required. Having attended an advertising portfolio or art program is a plus.
- You will be directly hands-on with your projects from initial concept, to final delivery.
- A strong conceptual approach that translates business problems into effective customer communications and experiences.
- The ability to effectively communicate an idea and take direction to further craft ideas to final form.
- 5-7 years of proven art direction, production and editing experience working with and creating content for multiple mediums - TV, short film, digital, PR stunts, social, mobile, brand behaviors, radio, print, customer experience and product.
- Ability to organize and synthesize information from multiple sources, and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability and desire to have your ideas killed, and know there are still plenty of better ideas to create. Aka: the ability not to fall in love with ideas to where they can't be changed or evolve.
- Ability to prioritize/re-prioritize multiple projects and/or deadlines in a fast-paced and constantly shifting work environment.
- Digitally adept in Adobe CC. Especially, Photoshop, Illustrator, and AE/Premiere
- Possess filming experience and frequently experiments
- Has intimate knowledge of social platform capabilities
- Works well under pressure and deadlines
- Adept at starting and finishing one-day assignments.
- Understands the structure and arc of storytelling.
- Basic animation and stop motion skills would be useful and play a role in your projects.
- Ability to think in various short form formats. The shorter you can create for the world's waning attention span, the better.
- Constantly experimenting with techniques. Getting inspired by what you see out in the world and putting your own twist on it. Hell, even pushing to come up with something that's never been done before.
- Tabletop experience would be invaluable.
- The understanding of film lighting principles is key.
- Organized and efficient with time.
- Entrepreneurial spirit.
- Ability to keep project files organized throughout a project.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to generate endless ideas on a timeline and present them to fellow colleagues.
- Ability to make revisions based on agreed upon feedback.
- Ability to run forward with minimal direction.
- Full-Time Salary Position with a competitive salary.
- Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits.
- 401K with company match.
- A multitude of perks including student loan payments, discounts on vehicles, benefits for your pets, and much more.
- A great wellness program to keep you healthy and happy both physically and mentally.
- Access to opportunities to expand your skill set and share your knowledge with others across the organization.
- A seat in one of the fastest-growing companies in the country.
To be able to do your job at Carvana, there are some basic requirements we want to share with you.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
