Nurse:Patient Ratios Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:4-5 - will go up to 1:6 on occasion

Required Certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?)
BLS, ACLS

Common diagnosis / Types of patients
Cardiac/Vascular patient population, Chest Pain, Pacemaker, Pre-op and post-op care for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) patients, Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) (experience not required, core staff will manage), Heart Failure, Heart and Lung transplants, post cath patients (not required to pull sheaths), variety of vascular patients (e.g. amputation, revascularization procedures), and Internal Medicine and General Surgery patient populations.

Experience or 'Must have' skills
1 Year of level 1 or 2 trauma hospital experience, previous cardiac specialty experience

Are RN's required to titrate drips
Yes

Common titratable &/or set rate drips
Dopamine/Dobutamine/Heparin/Milrinone/Cardizem/Amiodarone/Nitro/Lasix

Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RN's required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?
yes, we are in the process of converting to Phillips monitors. We have monitor techs that watch our Telemetry, but nurses are responsible for interpreting our own strips

Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?
Team leads - 1 per shift and 2nd lead at time will go into staffing

Are there Nurse Aides on this unit/Ratios
Yes- Days: 1:9-10 Nights:1:11-12

RT/Equipment (i.e., Cpap, Bipap, High Flow, vents, etc.)
RT in house 24/7. No vents, do see CPAP/BiPAP, high flow O2 (optiflow), trachs

Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?)
12HR shifts. Schedule needs to be balanced and approved by Staffing Office. Try their best to accommodate scheduling needs but have to balance based on staffing needs.

Schedule is made out 6 weeks in advance so travelers need to be flexible. Will be filling in schedule gaps when starting in the middle of the current schedule.

Will consider block scheduling but not a guarantee (typically not able to accommodate in the middle of a schedule - will consider with the start of a new schedule). Block scheduling is easiest to accommodate when wanting a block schedule that includes a weekend block.

Weekend Requirements
Will cover 50% of the weekend shifts (assigned weekend days can vary based on the needs of the hospital)

Day shift weekend shifts are considered Sat/Sun

Night shift weekend shifts are considered Fri/Sat - Sunday is not considered a weekend shift for the night shift

Holiday Requirements
Yes, rotated based on the needs of the unit

Is there Call or a Standby requirement?
No

Floating Requirements?
May float to other Med Surg units within the hospital and to Bellevue Medical Center to like units

Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs Provided?
Gray, Scrubs can be bought at Scrubs & Beyond on 78th & Dodge Street (there is a Nebraska Medicine section). If they want t-shirts instead of scrub tops they can purchase those at The Company Store on Nebraska Medicine campus

Unit/Department Specific Orientation
2-12 hour shifts on the unit

Additional Notes
Procedural and N95 masks, gloves, gowns, eye wear available for isolation patients and/or general patients.

3 Negative air flow rooms available for TB or other airborne related isolations
