Orthopedic Med Surg, Ortho with complications, Wound infections, Osteomyelitis, Resp failure, Chronic Kidney issues, Alcohol Withdrawal

Experience or 'Must have' skills
1 year of level 1 or level 2 trauma hospital experience in a hospital of similar size. This is an academic medical center so experience in this hospital setting preferred.

Must be true Tele nurses due to higher acuity patients

Are RN's required to titrate drips
Yes

Common titratable &/or set rate drips
Insulin, Heparin, Stable cardiac drips, Amiodarone, Ketamine, PCAs

Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RN's required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?
Phillips Monitors. Tele Techs are not on the unit but someone is watching from Heart Monitor unit - calls with concerns. Nurses will validate/sign off on strips once per shift.

Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?
YES. Day shift has 2 charge nurses and Nights has 1 charge nurse. Charge nurse is patient free charges so able to serve as a resource

Are there Nurse Aides on this unit/Ratios
Yes. Days 1:6-10 and Nights 1:10

RT/Equipment (i.e., Cpap, Bipap, High Flow, vents, etc.)
No vents, can have CPAP/BiPAP (stable home settings), high flow O2 (optiflow), Trach Collars

Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?)
12HR shifts. Resource Management Team will fill Travelers in around scheduled core staff to meet the organizational needs of their current schedule. Self scheduling is utilized for future schedules but travelers should be flexible to meet the house scheduling needs. They try their best to accommodate scheduling needs but have to balance based on staffing needs.

Will consider block scheduling but not a guarantee (typically not able to accommodate in the middle of a schedule - will consider with the start of a new schedule).

Must disclose time off prior to the start of the assignment and list time off/specific day off needs in contract as RDO (Requested Days Off)

Weekend Requirements Will cover 50% of the weekend shifts (assigned weekend days can vary based on the needs of the hospital)

Day shift weekend shifts are considered Sat/Sun

Night shift weekend shifts are considered Fri/Sat - Sunday is not considered a weekend shift for the night shift

Holiday Requirements
Yes, rotated based on the needs of the unit

Is there Call or a Standby requirement?
NO

Floating Requirements?
May float to other Med Surg/Tele units within the hospital and to Bellevue Medical Center to Med Surg units

Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs Provided?
Gray, Scrubs can be bought at Scrubs & Beyond on 78th & Dodge Street (there is a Nebraska Medicine section). If they want t-shirts instead of scrub tops they can purchase those at The Company Store on Nebraska Medicine campus
