POSITION SUMMARY

Assist Project Management and Safety Team, with the task assignments related to safety, quality of work, equipment utilization and productivity. Assist VP of Field Operations and Project Management Team with the project team assignment. Develop and maintain WB Best Practices and reduce variation within the field operations of WB.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Ensuring Safety

Ensuring that all applicable OSHA and WB safety rules, regulations and guidelines are always understood and adhered to by WB personnel, vendors, and subcontractors.

• Assist Superintendents and employees by ensuring that the strategic priority of safety is maintained operationally daily.

• Make safety a priority in each day's activities, be intolerant of violations or excuses by other parties and require prompt correction.

• Ensure that WB employees, vendors and sub-contractors adhere to all of the company and OSHA guidelines including any job specific rules and regulations that are required by our clients.

• Advise foreman and document other trades of their safety violations that may affect WB and if repeatedly ignored, advise client.

• Troubleshoot and solve any special problems as they arise on the job site in order to: (a) keep employees safe, (b) ensure the work activities remain on schedule and (c) that customers' expectations are exceeded.

• Report safety violations and any foreseeable safety issues directly to site Superintendent.

• Ensure that the Safety team is aware of upcoming task that may require their help.

• Assist the Safety Team in the development of improved safety procedures. Maintain leadership of safety initiative.
  • Perform all assigned roles, responsibilities, and related work processes/tasks in the safest possible manner. Ensure that a safe, accident/incident-free work environment is maintained for all co-workers, customers, clients, suppliers, etc. at all times.
Operations

Assist with planning and selecting of materials and equipment for projects. Review schedules and budgets with Project Managers and General Superintendent. Assist with the manpower and project needs. Assess and reduce un-wanted variation on jobsites
  • Oversee Foreman and assist them with their daily needs.
  • Assist Project Manager and General Superintendent and Foreman in establishing crew size, production rates, crew leadership, based on project schedule.
  • Assist Foreman with reviewing of the contract documents, drawings and specifications.
  • Seat the project handoff and provide project team with any unusual findings within the contract documents.
  • Assist Foreman and the General Superintendent with manpower needs throughout the job schedule.
  • Provide the project team with an outside looking in view of the project along with recommendations.
  • Conduct onsite inspections along with the General Superintendent and Foreman and provide reports to VP of Field operations.
  • Help coordinate the productive use of company resources.
  • Provide leadership to WB Foreman in developing the Site-Specific Safety Plan. If significant changes occur during the duration of the project, ensure that appropriate changes are made in site safety plan and transmitted to WB Project Manager and Safety Director. Ensure that all WB subcontractors adhere to our safety program.
  • Provide leadership to WB Foremen/Lead Personnel in the development, implementation and monitoring of Pre-Task Safety Plans. Ensure that Pre-Task Safety Plans are in alignment with the Site-Specific Safety Plan and the WB Corporate Safety and Health Program.
  • Provide operational guidelines and procedures to all Foreman to ensure that all equipment on job sites is in proper and safe working order. Ensure that safe equipment operation procedures are always followed.
  • Provide operational guidelines and procedures to all Foreman to ensure that all equipment materials and supplies are handled (e.g., staging, storing, cleaning, servicing, loading for transport, etc.) safely on all job sites.
Staffing

Ensuring that appropriate personnel are available to complete construction activities within budget, on schedule, and to contract specifications/requirements.
  • Coordinate the interviewing and hiring of any "locally employed" craft-level workers as necessary to finish the building project on schedule.
  • Cooperate with other WB Superintendents to transfer craft-level workers to various job sites, as necessary.
  • Make recommendations on pay, promotion, and discharge decisions related to Supervisors and Craft-level personnel.
  • Ensure that project morale is maintained, and employee needs are being met.
  • Assist Foreman with the development of people.
Constructing

Working with the General Superintendent and WB Project Manager to complete process integration building activities safely and within the overall building project's scope and schedule.
  • Performs all essential job functions of a Superintendent
Safety Control
  • Ensure that all applicable WB, OSHA and Project Specific safety rules, regulations and guidelines are always understood and adhered to by WB personnel on-site performing these other work-related tasks.
Quality Control

• Maintain WB Quality Standards through-out the projects.

• Foster and maintain a super-critical attitude to workmanshipat start of project and new work.

• Knowextent of Client's quality concerns,those specific to the scope of work and contract specificationsprior to starting project.

Production Control

• Assist with productivity of workers and efficient use of materials and equipment.

• Share with PM and Supt. any production problems and any personnel and material shortages or excesses.

• Inspect and report on other subcontractor performance whose work is or could possible delay the work

• Stress need for open communication including coordination, anticipated deliveries, impacts, and manpower
  • requirements.
Cost Control

• Identify and report any material, labor, or equipment cost over or underruns to the Project Manager / Project Engineer and discuss possible corrective action.

• Make recommendations to PM for reducing time or costs of general conditions, site, subcontractor work, and company work.

• Review labor costs with the site Foreman and Project Manager weekly. Concentrate on reducing overtime costs and remedial work costs.

Innovation
  • Assist Foreman with the development and the implementation of WB Best Practices.
  • Encourage innovation and creative thinking within the WB crews.
  • Share lessons learned with each WB Group.
Training

Mentoring Foreman in accordance with the WB Training Program as

necessary to improve worker safety, quality and productivity at the job site.

• Suggest training needs for Foreman.

• Train Foreman in their job responsibilities and work tasks.

• Assist identifying potential candidates for training and help coordinate their training efforts.

Checking/Evaluating

Evaluating the performance and morale of: (a) WB personnel as a team, (b) the work performed, (c) safety requirements are met, and (d) individual craft-level employees as appropriate.
  • Evaluate the performance of the entire WB project team in relation to completing of its portion of the construction project in accordance with the construction plans, work schedule and reasonable general contractor/client needs and expectations and customer satisfaction.
  • Evaluate the performance of Foreman and craft level employees assigned to the job site and helping employees improve their performance, as necessary.
  • Evaluate the overall work being performed to make sure it conforms to: (a) all applicable OSHA safety rules, regulations and policies (b) WB quality control requirements, and (c) general contractor specifications/expectations,
Reporting
  • Provide daily reports to the VP of Field Operations, Project Management and the General Superintendent.
  • Provide feedback to the Safety Department on site evaluations.
  • Report equipment conditions and findings to the Equipment Manager / Shop Foreman
Improving
  • Identify any innovative method, process, action step or procedure that enhances Safety, Quality, and Productivity.
  • Describe in writing this "best practice" and place description on WB server.
  • Implement and evaluate any best practice as directed by the VP of Field Operations.

  • appropriately prioritized and balanced on this specific job.
Education and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED- required
  • Associate degree in construction related field - desirable
  • Vocational or technical training/work experience in construction- required
  • Five years commercial construction work experience as a superintendent - required
