Alta Equipment Company is currently seeking an IT Network and Systems Engineer. This is a senior staff position within the IT Infrastructure Team, the candidate will be responsible for championing the development and implementation of technology-based solutions within the infrastructure team. The position will be required to troubleshoot effectively and solve technical issues within the environment with a specific focus on networking, including LAN, WAN, and Azure Cloud Infrastructure. This position will be a hybrid/remote role for our Livonia, MI location.
Responsibilities include:
- Work with the infrastructure team to design and implement projects in the areas below while considering risks and potential impact.
- Networking & Cloud Infrastructure
- WAN, LAN, & WLAN
- Routers, SDWAN, Switches, and Firewalls
- Manage Network Systems availability, performance, and uptime.
- Manage and schedule network changes and updates.
- Collaborate on developing robust policies and procedures to minimize downtime and prevent unnecessary disruptions. Additionally, ensure that all IT policies, procedures, documentation, and change request records remain current and up to date.
- Proactively assess infrastructure.
- Make recommendations to the business regarding information technology leveraging innovative technology to improve business and productivity based on current user base and future growth.
- Monitor and maintain business infrastructure in its entirety including but not limited to infrastructure backups, redundancy, cloud infrastructure, network access and compliance.
Required Skills and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in an IT related field or equivalent experience.
* Five or more years' experience as a Network Engineer.
* Experience with Routing, software-defined networking (SDN), VPNs, and Firewalls.
* Networking Experience (OSI network layers, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, subnetting, and network topologies).
* Proficient in Azure Firewall, Azure Virtual Networks, Subnets, and Network Security Groups (NSGs).
* Experience with Azure ExpressRoute, Azure Bastion, and VPN Gateway configurations.
* Proficient in configuring enterprise wireless networks using wireless standards (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax) and security protocols (WPA, WPA2, WPA3).
* Understanding of frequency, wavelength, RF propagation, interference mitigation, and antenna design.
* Proficient in configuring switches, including VLANs, STP (Spanning Tree Protocol), and trunking.
* Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
* Creative problem solver with analytical skills with the ability to work independently.
* Excellent time management with the ability to multitask.
* Organized and detail oriented.
* Computer programs - Wireshark, Putty, Office 365, Visio, etc.
* Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
* Mathematical Skills - Intermediate.
* Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
* Windows Server Administration
* Networking certifications (CCNA, CCNP, Network+)
* Cloud Infrastructure experience, preferably in Microsoft 365, Azure & AWS.
* Microsoft Active Directory Management Experience
* Experience with UCaaS Infrastructure
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly will use hands, sit, talk/hear; Occasionally will stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Vision: Close vision, ability to adjust focus.
- Lift and/or Move Functions: Occasionally will lift 50 pounds
- Work Environment: Occasionally will work near moving mechanical parts
