Professional Engineer

Section 1 - Position Summary

Responsibility for quality assurance review of engineering projects. Tracks work progress of the various engineering design and construction projects by reviewing and commenting on submitted schedules. Reviews change orders, requests for information, field changes, and pay requests. Acts as a project manager for assigned projects. Maintains project management procedures. Works under general supervision. Requires experience in municipal water and wastewater design and construction or electrical power distribution and systems for industrial facilities.

Section 2 - Major Responsibilities

  1. Review design plans and specifications for completeness and accuracy as a quality assurance function. Coordinates questions and comments on same with operations groups.
  2. Maintains project records utilizing standard forms and standard project correspondence.
  3. Reviews requests for information, field changes, and change orders for construction projects. Provides technical support to field inspectors and maintains status, budget and schedule updates for management.
  4. Facilitates and leads project design review meetings and construction progress meetings.
  5. Provides technical support for tie-ins and shutdowns as needed.
  6. Assists and advises the Operations Departments with special projects and requests for information.
Section 3 - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficiency in use of Microsoft Word, Excel and management software.

Section 4 - Education and Experience
  1. Degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related field received from an accredited college or university.
  2. Professional Engineering Registration in the State of Texas.
  3. Experience in water/wastewater process, treatment, pumping, collection (wastewater), transmission (water) pipeline design and construction; or electrical experience in drawings and specifications for medium voltage and low voltages systems.
  4. Experience utilizing engineering design and project management software.
  5. Requires a valid Texas Driver's License.


Section 5 - Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment

Moderate physical labor and considerable mental attention required with some eyestrain. Generally desirable conditions with some outside visits to work-sites with varying environmental conditions. Considerable time can be spent working with and viewing a computer screen. Considerable time viewing plans, specifications and reading reports and correspondence. Some time will be spent at construction sites, traversing rough terrain, climbing stairs and ladders to access structures. Equipment used includes calculators, computers and some field survey equipment.
