Veterinary Pharmacy Technician

Position Overview:

Veterinary Pharmacy Technician performs a variety of behind the scenes duties to ensure quality patient and client care. The Veterinary Pharmacy Technician will be computer savvy and will be able to navigate through the paperless computer system at OSVS. The Pharmacy Technician must demonstrate a strong attention to detail and be able to audit their own work. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of emergency and critical care and the ability remain calm during stressful situations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Retrieval of prescription requests via email, voicemail, and fax.
  • Communicate with clients regarding prescription instructions, refills, etc.
  • Communicate with staff regarding prescription requests
  • Scan through doctor's notes for prescription directives
  • Understands classification of commonly-used medications and associated side effects
  • Fill prescriptions in in-house pharmacy
  • Call, fax, and email prescription orders into outside pharmacies
  • Stocking and organizing of pharmacy

Job Requirements:
  • Tech school graduate or at least 2 years recent experience in veterinary practice
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills
  • High school diploma or GED

OSVS is located in East Greenwich, RI with a satellite facility in Swansea, MA. OSVS is a 35,000 sf building with a very busy emergency service, a nationally-respected internship and residency program, and specialists in Emergency/Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Radiology, Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, and Avian/Exotics. Specialized equipment includes telemetry, endoscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, and MRI.
