Graycor is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join our dynamic team and participate in our Engineering Mentoring Program. This program is designed to provide you with the hands-on experience necessary to build a successful career in the construction industry. You will receive tailored training, coaching, and mentoring on various challenging project assignments, all while rotating through different departments. You will take an active role in your career development by conducting self-assessments of your progress against established core competencies.
Project Engineers typically spend 24 months in the Engineer Mentoring Program before advancing to new positions within Graycor.
AS A PROJECT ENGINEER, YOU WILL GAIN EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
- Project Management/ Project Controls:
- Support the Project Manager and Superintendent in effectively managing the project while prioritizing safety and quality programs at the job site.
- Help develop and maintain the critical path project schedule, including revisions. Collaborate with the Project Manager and/or Superintendent in creating short-term look-ahead schedules and applying Lean Construction techniques.
- Ensure proper maintenance of project documentation and facilitate approvals from the Owner, Architect, and Engineers. Develop a thorough understanding of all contract documents, including plans, specifications, contractual agreements, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
- Assist with the procurement process for equipment and materials, tracking and expediting their delivery.
- Monitor and evaluate subcontractor and vendor performance, addressing technical and contractual matters as needed.
- Estimating/ Preconstruction Services:
- Contribute to the preparation of estimates and quotations to secure project work. Work alongside the Project Manager and/or Estimator in the bidding process, including subcontractor/vendor solicitation, evaluation, and award.
TO EXCEL IN THE GRAYCOR ENGINEERING MENTORING PROGRAM, YOU WILL NEED:
- A Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a relevant technical discipline.
- 1-3 years of applicable construction internship or post-undergraduate experience.
- The willingness to travel frequently and temporarily reside at project sites for extended periods, with travel home provided every other weekend. Travel subsistence pay and incentive bonuses may apply.
- A passion for professional growth and a desire to acquire new knowledge and skills. Our most successful Engineers are driven to succeed and have a strong interest in a variety of construction projects, including retail, entertainment, hospitality, office spaces, logistics, manufacturing, and green/LEED buildings.
- The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Multi-tasking with a sense of urgency while maintaining strong attention to detail is essential.
- Excellent communication skills to interact professionally with managers, co-workers, subcontractors, and construction craft employees.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite. Familiarity with scheduling, estimating, and takeoff software is a plus, particularly Primavera P6, WinEst, and On-Screen Takeoff.
