Job Summary:
The Senior Manager, Tax will oversee and manage the company's tax function, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and international tax laws and regulations. This role will be responsible for managing tax planning, preparation, and reporting activities, along with tax audits, filings, and strategy development. The Senior Manager will work closely with senior leadership, finance, legal, and external advisors to ensure effective tax strategies are in place to minimize tax liabilities, manage risk, and align with business objectives. This role requires a combination of onsite and hybrid work arrangements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tax Compliance and Reporting: Manage and oversee the preparation and filing of the company's federal, state, and local income tax returns, including the review of tax provisions and related financial statement disclosures in accordance with GAAP and tax regulations.
- Tax Planning and Strategy: Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the company's global tax position. Work with business units to identify opportunities for tax savings, incentives, credits, and efficient tax structuring.
- Tax Audits and Controversies: Lead and manage tax audits and disputes with government agencies. Coordinate responses to audit inquiries, document and resolve any issues, and work with external tax advisors as needed to ensure favorable outcomes.
- Tax Research and Technical Analysis: Provide guidance on complex tax issues, including changes in tax law (e.g., U.S. tax reform), and ensure that the company's tax policies remain compliant and aligned with evolving tax regulations.
- Tax Provision and Accounting: Oversee the calculation of income tax provisions under ASC 740 and other accounting principles, ensuring accuracy and timely filings. Ensure compliance with both tax accounting and reporting standards.
- Collaboration and Advisory: Act as a trusted advisor to senior management, finance teams, and business leaders on tax-related matters, including corporate structuring, M&A activity, financing arrangements, and operational changes. Provide strategic advice on tax implications for business decisions.
- Team Management and Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and technical expertise. Ensure team members are well-trained on tax regulations, company policies, and systems.
- External Relationships: Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to ensure tax compliance and to stay informed of changes in tax law that could affect the company.
- Continuous Improvement: Continuously review and improve the efficiency of tax processes and systems, identifying opportunities for automation, streamlining workflows, and enhancing the accuracy of tax filings and reporting.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A Master's in Taxation, JD, or an advanced degree is preferred.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent certification.
- 7+ years of experience in tax, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial or senior role.
- Extensive experience with corporate tax compliance, tax planning, and tax reporting, including federal, state, and international tax issues.
- Strong understanding of U.S. tax law, tax compliance regulations, and tax accounting principles (ASC 740).
- Experience in managing tax audits and working with government agencies.
- Experience with transfer pricing and international tax is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of tax laws and regulations, including U.S. federal, state, and local taxation.
- Strong technical proficiency in tax accounting, tax provision software, and ERP systems.
- Proven ability to manage complex tax issues and advise senior leadership on tax implications of business decisions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex tax issues to non-tax professionals and senior executives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop a high-performing tax team.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, collaborative environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Knowledge of tax compliance software (e.g., OneSource, CorpTax, or similar platforms) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
