Tax Director

Our client, a leading investment management firm, is seeking a Tax Director to join their Operations team. This role involves overseeing tax structuring, tax placement, tax compliance, and tax review. The Tax Director will work closely with internal groups to maintain a best-in-class tax function and will oversee two experienced Tax Managers. This position offers a dynamic and expansive role, allowing the individual to work across all areas of tax functions. The role is hybrid, with office days in downtown Oakland.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee tax structuring, tax placement, tax compliance, and tax review.
  • Assess tax leakage and partner with internal groups to maintain a best-in-class tax function.
  • Collaborate with multiple fund administrators, tax advisors, and tax firms.
  • Work across all areas of tax functions, adding value to investors, managers, and investment professionals.
  • Strategically plan considering multiple facets, including the global landscape, political environment, firm interests, and firm strategy.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels in the firm and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • 13-15 years of experience across public and private advisory (ideally 8-10 years in public advisory, 4 years in private).
  • CPA (active or inactive) or JD required; Masters or LLM Degree preferred but not necessary.
  • Experience with international tax issues and ability to leverage good tax advisors.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of simplifying complex tax concepts.
  • Ethical, hard-working, team-first mindset with a "no task too small" orientation.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and creative.
  • Strategic thinker with a passion for solving complex business problems.
Compensation:
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $250K - $350K per year.
