Position Summary: Design Engineers perform structural calculations designing steel storage tanks and steel structures. Engineers also review design codes and reference material for application in a safe and economical product design as well as enhancing the automated mathematical calculation processes.

Design Engineer Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical support to the Sales Department to ensure accurate project quotes.
Perform strength calculations by using standard design software.
Develop final product designs, conceptual sketches and details of storage tank systems in accordance with customer requirements, safe manufacturability, and construction.
Coordinate with various departments to solve technical/design issues that arise during the course of a project and make recommendations for corrective actions and enhancements.
Assists drafters in generating fabrication drawings/details.
Constantly improving product design through a review of design codes and references.
Establish, maintain and update applicable product standards within the company.
May perform other duties as assigned.

Design Engineer Skills and Specifications:
Strong verbal and written communication skills; with the ability to effectively communicate complex commercial or technical information.
Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills.
Solid problem-solving skills.
Able to manage multi-task work in a fast-paced environment.
Able to work proactively and independently on a broad variety of projects.
Able to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with people in course of work.
Willingness to work additional hours in order to meet job requirements.

Design Engineer Education and Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited curriculum.
Professional Engineer licensure.
Experience in civil, structural or mechanical engineering preferred, but not required.
Experience in structural steel design, building codes and/or tank design a plus.
Computer programming experience a plus.

Design Engineer Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of Design Engineer, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Design Engineer Work Environment:
While performing the duties of Design Engineer, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
