We are currently seeking a Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) for a client in Northern Virginia. The PIC will be responsible for overseeing all operations at a mail-order 503A pharmacy licensed in 49 states, specializing in both sterile compounding and retailing 503B compounded medications in the GLP-1 space.

The PIC ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, maintains high standards of patient care, and manages pharmacy staff. This role requires coordination with healthcare providers and ensures the accurate and timely dispensing of medications.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited pharmacy school.
  • Licensure: Active pharmacist license in good standing with the state board of pharmacy. 10+ state licenses required, 49 preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a pharmacy setting, with prior management experience in compounding pharmacies preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Detailed knowledge of pharmacy laws and regulations.
    • Proficiency with pharmacy management software and systems.
    • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Leadership and Management:
    • Oversee daily operations of the mail-order pharmacy, including sterile compounding and retailing of 503B compounded medications.
    • Manage, mentor, and train pharmacy staff.
    • Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage for all operations.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback.
  2. Compliance and Regulatory:
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, particularly those related to mail-order pharmacy operations and sterile compounding.
    • Maintain all necessary licenses and certifications for the pharmacy and staff across 49 states.
    • Implement and enforce policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective pharmacy operations.
    • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including those specific to compounding.
  3. Patient Care:
    • Provide exceptional patient care, including counseling on medication usage, side effects, and interactions.
    • Address and resolve patient concerns and complaints.
    • Ensure accurate and timely dispensing of medications through mail-order services.
    • Oversee medication therapy management (MTM) and immunization services.
  4. Inventory Management:
    • Oversee the ordering, receiving, and storage of pharmaceutical inventory, including raw materials for compounding.
    • Manage inventory to minimize waste and ensure the availability of necessary medications.
    • Conduct regular inventory audits and manage controlled substances in compliance with regulations.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize patient care, especially in the context of custom-compounded medications.
    • Maintain effective communication with pharmacy staff, management, and external stakeholders.
    • Participate in community outreach and health promotion activities.
  6. Quality Improvement:
    • Implement and monitor quality assurance programs.
    • Address and resolve medication errors, adverse drug events, and quality issues in compounded medications.
    • Continuously improve pharmacy services and patient outcomes.
