Summary

This is a Direct Hire Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) is for an Emergency Room (ER) Nurse located at the at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ and will report to the Supervisory Nurse.

This position performs professional nursing in the care of emergency patients managing critical patient care, in varying medical situations, reflecting the knowledge of hospital policy and procedures relating to patient care.

Duties
  • Determines the severity of illness or injury and initiates and provides rapid intervention in emergent, life-threatening conditions, even when a physician is not present or immediately available.
  • Plans, organizes and provides comprehensive nursing care to patients based on protocols, professional and unit standards of care and physical, mental and emotional needs of the patient as determined by the assessment.
  • Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician to including, but not limited to medication administration, intravenous fluids, blood transfusions and other emergency treatments.
  • Facilitates Emergency Department Patient flow and efficiency to expedite medical evaluation and treatment.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the , , , or an accrediting body recognized by the at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree From Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.

GS-10 Basic Requirements:

Possession of a diploma, associate degree or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program andat least one (1)full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level):
  • Managing the care of patients who present to the Emergency Department with a wide variety of conditions ranging from non-urgent to life-threatening or emergent.
  • Experience in assessing the immediate needs of patients, prioritizing care needs, working in a collaborative interdisciplinary team to address identified care needs of critically ill patients.
  • Experience coordinating and organizing the plan of care from Emergency Department admission through discharge.
  • Experience performing charge nurse and/or team lead responsibilities.
