Job Summary

This is a Direct Hire Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) for an Emergency Room (ER) Nurse located at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. The selected individual will report to the Supervisory Nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine the severity of illness or injury and initiate rapid intervention in emergent, life-threatening conditions.
  • Plan, organize, and provide comprehensive nursing care to patients based on protocols, professional, and unit standards of care.
  • Administer therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician, including medication administration, intravenous fluids, blood transfusions, and other emergency treatments.
  • Facilitate Emergency Department patient flow and efficiency to expedite medical evaluation and treatment.
Requirements
  • Must pass pre-employment examination.
  • Selectee may be subject to a probationary period.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • This is a designated position covered by Public Law, requiring contact or control over Indian children.
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
  • Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
  • The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements.
  • On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part-time experience.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this 0610 occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

GS-10 Basic Requirements:

Possession of a diploma, associate degree or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and at least one (1) full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level):

  • Managing the care of patients who present to the Emergency Department with a wide variety of conditions ranging from non-urgent to life-threatening or emergent.
  • Experience in assessing the immediate needs of patients, prioritizing care needs, working in a collaborative interdisciplinary team to address identified care needs of critically ill patients.
  • Experience coordinating and organizing the plan of care from Emergency Department admission through discharge.
  • Experience performing charge nurse and/or team lead responsibilities.
