Scope of Role

The Mechanical Assembler position is responsible for performing assigned duties related to the assembly, sub-assembly, and electrical testing of gear motors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assemble products according to established methods, procedures and standards and/or sub-assembly of component parts from bills of materials and production orders, involving component parts and different configurations of sub-assemblies.
  • Assemble gear boxes using hot plates, induction heaters, and liquid nitrogen.
  • Perform assembly of special units from engineering prints, special notes, and blueprints.
  • Perform electrical testing on gear motors.
  • Use air impact wrenches, assorted hand tools, drivers and protective leaders, grease guns and indicators in assembly work. Operate hand arbor presses, pneumatic and hydraulic presses for assembly of certain units.
  • Use of a computer to confirm orders and print labels.
  • Thoroughly inspect each completed unit to ensure correct and complete assembly and ensure that completed work and appearance meet standards; and/or inspect component parts before beginning sub-assembly work, ensuring correct identification and appearance of parts.
  • Complete the required documentation and report on daily work.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of assembly processes, inspections, quality issues encountered, and problem-solving documentation.
  • Other duties could include operating hoists, cranes, forklift and painting/packing equipment when applicable.

  • Ability to perform precise and accurate mechanical and electrical assembly work.
  • Ability to disassemble, modify, rework, reassemble and test final assemblies.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution is required.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • 2-3 years of previous experience with multi-stage mechanical assembly is desired.
  • Experience using power hand tools is desired
Physical Demand and Work Environment:

Physical Demands: Potential physical demands include, but are not limited to: frequent walking, standing, twisting, carrying and handling; regular bending, stooping and kneeling; regular lifting up to 50 lbs.; occasional climbing, pushing and pulling. Work Environment: Majority of time is spent in a manufacturing production environment with some (but not all) climate-controlled areas. Personal protective safety equipment must be worn, and proper safety precautions must be observed. Potential exposure may include, but is not limited to: solvents, dusts, noise, heat, outside weather conditions, cramped spaces, and building construction areas.
