This position is for 2024-2025.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Plan, implement, and evaluate the District's elementary school comprehensive program of guidance, including counseling services in the area of assignment. Use a planning process to define the needs and priorities of the population served. Provide a proactive, developmental guidance program for all students to maximize personal growth, development, and post-secondary opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Master's degree in guidance and counseling Valid Texas counselor's certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and preparation for post-secondary opportunities and development

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to speak Spanish preferred

Experience:

Three years of teaching experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Program Management

1. Collaborate with school personnel, students, parents, and the community to implement, and promote continuous improvement of a developmental guidance and counseling program.

Guidance/Counseling

2. Plan structured lessons to deliver the Elementary Guidance Curriculum effectively and in accordance with students' developmental needs.

3. Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students that facilitate the development of educational goals and a post-secondary awareness plan.

4. Assist teachers in understanding student behavior and social/emotional needs as they relate to classroom learning.

5. Assist in conferences with teacher-student, teacher-parent, and teacher-student-parent.

6. Use accepted theories and effective techniques to promote the educational, personal, and social development of students.

Coordination/Student Assessment

7. Coordinate people and other resources in the school, home, and community to promote student success.

8. Use an effective process when referring students, parents, and/or others to special programs and services.

9. Interpret test results and other assessment data to guide students in individual goal setting and planning.

10. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of guidance and counseling.

Professional Behavior

11. Demonstrate professionalism, including a commitment to professional development.

12. Advocate for a school environment that acknowledges and respects diversity.

13. Establish and maintain professional relationships with administrators, teachers, other school personnel, parents, and community members.

14. Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.

15. Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.

Student Management

16. Develop and maintain effective relationships with students and parents.

17. Facilitate adjustment of new students to school.

18. Assist students in understanding appropriate behavior and behavior management skills at the elementary school level.

Consultation

19. Consult with school personnel, parents, and other community members to promote understanding of student development, individual behavior, the student environment, and human relationships.

20. Collaboratively provide professional expertise to advocate for individual students and specific groups of students.

21. Adhere to legal standards including school board policies.

22. Adhere to state, district, and campus standards, regulations, and procedures.

23. Shows commitment to current professional standards of competence and practice.

24. Promote and follow ethical standards for school counselors.

25. Demonstrate professional and responsible work habits.

26. Use professional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

27. Perform any other duties assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to instruct; maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Exposure to childhood communicable diseases; good general health and stamina needed
