Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients of the assigned clinic.
  • Provide age-appropriate and individualized teaching to patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Prepare exam rooms and patients for assessments, document clinical intake, monitoring, interventions, and care outcomes. Ensure all documentation about patient care and communication is accurate.
  • Perform CLIA-waived lab tests, venipuncture, and capillary blood draws, and prepare samples for processing. Maintain competency and compliance with regulations and quality assurance requirements.
  • Conduct various diagnostic tests, including EKGs, vision, and hearing screenings, under the supervision of healthcare providers.
  • Aid providers during exams and procedures, including performing medical scribe duties and documentation. Enter orders and referrals as directed.
  • Administer childhood and adult vaccines, familiar with vaccine schedules, protocols, and CDC recommendations. Handle vaccine information from IRIS, CDC, USPSTF, and other resources.
  • Perform medication prior authorizations with insurance companies and administer subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intradermal injections.
  • Serve as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning needs with the healthcare team.
  • Accountable for patient assessment, care planning, patient care, and monitoring patient outcomes across the lifespan. Implement all phases of the nursing process competently.
  • Conduct Medicare Wellness visits, complete all screenings, make service recommendations, handle billing for nurses, and track patient completion of services.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions. Report patient status to healthcare providers, obtain orders for care, and implement orders within the scope of practice.
  • Scan/order medical supplies, monitor inventory in compliance with Joint Commission and Rural Healthcare guidelines, and make recommendations for improving safety and quality of care.
  • Provide back-up coverage for office staff, follow guidelines for scheduling, answering phones, processing documents, and maintain an understanding of check-in and check-out responsibilities.
  • Report variances, near misses, or patient complaints using the online incident reporting software to promote safe patient care and a safe working environment.
  • Process incoming and outgoing electronic documents in the EHR clinical in-box, including patient cases, phone calls, portal messages, medical records, refill requests, consult notes, lab results, and other correspondence.
  • Monitor the front office area and waiting room for safety, security, privacy, and patient concerns. Contact emergency services as needed, notify proper staff and leadership of incidents or complaints, and document them as per protocol. Relay non-urgent information to team leads and/or director.
