Teacher - Special Education

Provide services to students with disabilities in compliance with federal and state regulations. The successful candidate will be a general Special Education teacher and managing a caseload of students.
Qualifications:
- Hold or be eligible for Maryland Professional Educator Certificate with an endorsement in Special Education Infant-3, 1-8, 6-Adult or K-12.
- Knowledgeable of the IEP process and special education regulations, desired
- Has good interpersonal communication skills.
- Well-organized
- Ability to work well with colleagues, students and parents.
- Co-teaches in general education classes.
- With the general education teacher, consistently shares responsibilities and collaboratively implements evidenced-based co-teaching practices through seamless planning, delivery, and assessment of instruction.
- Incorporates modifications, accommodations, Universal Design for Learning, and differentiation to address diverse learning needs in lesson planning and content delivery.
- Manages a caseload of special education students. Including, but not limited to:
- Completes academic testing and report writing for initial and triennial evaluations.
- Preparing and monitoring the implementation of the Individualized Education Plan
- Provides parents with progress reports on IEP goals & objectives as indicated in the IEP-i.e. at least as often as nondisabled peers
- Maintains accurate and complete student records, collect data, and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, and district policies/procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with timelines (IEPs, triennial reviews, evaluations, etc.)
- Serves as a member on the IEP team.
- Collaborates with administrators, other teachers, school assistants, related service providers, families, and others as necessary.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and__in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitation of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay & Hours: This position is a 10-month position with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Caroline County Board of Education, Teacher Salary Scale. Placement on the appropriate salary lane/step will be based on knowledge, experience, skills, and abilities related to this positionThe starting salary at Increment 1 on the salary scale, with a Bachelor's Degree, is $50,635 and with Master's Degree Increment 1 is $53,300.
