Job Summary

As a Special Education Teacher with Caroline County Public Schools, you will provide services to students with disabilities in compliance with federal and state regulations. You will be a general Special Education teacher and manage a caseload of students. Your responsibilities will include co-teaching in general education classes, incorporating modifications and accommodations to address diverse learning needs, and managing a caseload of special education students.

Responsibilities
  1. Co-teach in general education classes and collaborate with general education teachers to implement evidenced-based co-teaching practices.
  2. Incorporate modifications, accommodations, Universal Design for Learning, and differentiation to address diverse learning needs in lesson planning and content delivery.
  3. Manage a caseload of special education students, including completing academic testing and report writing, preparing and monitoring the implementation of Individualized Education Plans, and providing parents with progress reports.
  4. Serve as a member on the IEP team and collaborate with administrators, other teachers, school assistants, related service providers, families, and others as necessary.
  5. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated, and create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Other Responsibilities
  1. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  2. Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  3. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like.
  4. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  5. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  6. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  7. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  8. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure.
  9. Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  10. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides and volunteers.
  11. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  12. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a 10-month position with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Placement on the appropriate salary lane/step will be based on knowledge, experience, skills, and abilities related to this position. The starting salary at Increment 1 on the salary scale, with a Bachelor's Degree, is $50,635 and with Master's Degree Increment 1 is $53,300.
