JOB SUMMARY: The BA-BS Counselor is responsible for conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, facilitate groups, assist residents in gaining employment, developing budget and tracking required savings, and seeking affordable housing.

  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans.
  • Evaluate clients' physical or mental condition based on review of client information.
  • Meet with families, probation officers, police, and other interested parties to exchange necessary information during the treatment process.
  • Refer patients, clients, or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary.
  • Counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting clients or patients.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and clients' progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives.
  • Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed to comply with changes in clients' status.
  • Discuss with individual patients their plans for life after leaving the program and assist in creating a transition plan.
  • Counsel with emphasis on rehabilitation and self sufficiency.
  • Work with individuals and groups to promote optimum behavioral health and functioning.

KNOWLEDGE AND JOB SKILLS: Must possess a working knowledge of behavioral health, chemical dependency concepts and rehabilitation techniques. Must be able to implement the AA/NA 12-step philosophy and understand the physiological and emotionally phenomenology associated with the disease concept of chemical dependency. Must be knowledgeable of counseling techniques.

PERSONAL QUALITIES: Self-motivated, communicates effectively in writing and interpersonally, dependable, organized, insightful, astute and intelligent. Must be able to work autonomously. Must have the ability to motivate others to complete tasks.

SPECIAL FACTORS: The person occupying this position would be well-served to possess a modicum of knowledge of child welfare services as a beneficial adjunct to clinical knowledge. Knowledge of the homeless population and issues associated with this population. The person occupying this position should have experience assisting individual in seeking employment and be familiar with resources in the area.

JUDGMENT/DECISION MAKING: Utilizes established corporate policies and procedures in making decisions. Uses sound judgment in meeting the responsibilities and performing the duties of the position.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or related field required.
    • CAP a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of two years of professional experience in the behavioral health field or working with the homeless population.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT: Completes all requirements according to Individual Training Plan within the first six months of hire and annually. Other training and/or professional development may be assigned due to evolution of programs.
