REPORTS TO: Building Principal

Closing Date: Open until filled

Salary Range:$50,597 to $99,931 Depending on experience and education.

Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Accidental Death Insurance. District pays $1,850 per month towards employee health insurance benefits.

SUMMARY:

The job of Behavior Support Specialist is to provide services designed to enhance the existing school and district programming in the area of behavior support. The specialist works in collaboration with school staff, families, and community partners to enable students to better access education opportunities. Behavior Support Specialists provide both direct and indirect supports designed to close the opportunity gap for all students. The Behavior Support Specialist helps with improving student behaviors which are impeding the education of the student and of others. They provide techniques to students and staff which will improve the ability of a child to develop socially and cognitively.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Individual and small group intervention
  • Collaboration and problem solving with teachers, administrators, and other school staff
  • Structured support planning and implementation
  • Behavior planning and coordination of implementation
  • Progress monitoring of at-risk students/data tracking
  • Communication/coordination with parents, families, and community partners (Lifeways, Umatilla Co. Human Services, Care, DHS, etc.)
  • Classroom observations
  • Crisis intervention and support
  • Facilitate whole-child supports for at-risk students
  • Conduct trainings for school staff members
  • Others duties as necessary to directly support at-risk students
KNOWLEDGE:

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each responsibility and essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's Degree in fields, such as psychology, social work, education, child development, or early childhood education, from an accredited institution; Master's Degree preferred
  • Experience working in education or child development
  • Familiarity with agencies and services available in the community to provide support to children and families
  • Training in principles in positive behavior support with experience and education in the field of developmental disabilities
  • Must have strong interest and experience supporting difficult behaviors for individuals who are diagnosed with developmental disabilities and/or mental health issues

  • Ability to communicate fluently in English, verbally and in writing; Ability to respond verbally and in writing to common inquires or complaints from students, parents, regulatory agencies or member of the community;
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions; Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions furnished in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Proficient in the use of computer, Internet based applications and variety of software, including but not limited to databased software, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and Google
