Pullet Farm Specialist

Position Summary:
Ensure optimum conditions in the houses for the pullets/laying hens, to Herbruck' s strictest quality standards.
Position Responsibilities:
• Caring for Pullets and/or Hens daily by studying and applying proper animal feed materials to optimize growth in birds.
• Studying biosecurity protocol and maintaining the poultry confinements to be consistent with biosecurity and sanitization procedure.
• Studying growth patterns on birds and ensuring proper water and feed levels to ensure optimal growth is actualized.
• Check feeder chains to ensure birds are receiving adequate feed to be consistent with the farm requirements and monitor to ensure there are not water leaks with the equipment.
• Must have a comprehensive understanding of the sophisticated equipment utilized on the farm, including computer control systems, mechanical feeding systems, and automatic watering systems.
• Take action consistent with the system manuals to remedy issues as they might arise. Repair small maintenance issues to be consistent with the operating system(s) of the farm, including but not to feeding, watering, manure belts, and ventilation systems.
• Perform necessary daily/weekly calendar cleaning as assigned by management and/or supervisor and consistent with biosecurity and sanitization protocol.
• Identify Sick/Injured birds. Identifying issues leading to increased sickness or injury in birds and communicating remedial actions that may be taken to reduce injury/sickness, leading to improved production rates within the farm.
• Record and monitory daily mortality checks. Study and, where applicable, advise of protocol to reduce daily mortality rate.
• Study and identify flock behaviors/trends. Communicate these behaviors and trends with supervisors. Where applicable, make suggestions necessary to improve output of the farm and improve efficiency.
• Be able to identify pest and environmental issues. Study, apply, and where applicable, develop improved practices for eliminating pest and environmental issues to enhance overall bird production efforts.
• Understand the use of various chemicals used in the raising of pullets. Must have knowledge of proper use of all chemicals.
• Ability to understand and comply with the strictest standards for animal welfare and to report incidents of abuse, neglect, or breach of biosecurity to preserve the health and welfare of our birds. Essential to understand the rationale for these practices and to be able to apply them consistently with company protocol.
• Complete dry cleaning of empty chicken houses.
• Set up houses for new pullets/hens to maximize techniques used for the livelihood of the new birds. This should reduce overall mortality of the birds and improve growing processes.
• Following of farm biosecurity and sanitization procedures in disinfecting house and door covers as required. To be able to do this properly, individual must have a comprehensive understanding of the protocol, why the protocol is in place, and then applying such protocol.
• Any other duties as assigned by the manager
