Event Streaming Platform Engineer

What does a successful Event Streaming Platform Engineer do at Fiserv?

The Fiserv Global Technology Transformation organization is looking to hire an Engineer for Fiserv’s Event Streaming Services (Kafka) enterprise platform. In this role, you will be supporting enterprise solutions with your extensive experience with Event driven platforms and automation, transforming the Enterprise Data Streaming Services.  This role is a contributor to the engineering and automation of Fiserv’s global (Kafka) Event Streaming Services Platform, assisting in new application builds, scaled deployments, and operations for all of our customers.

What will you do?

  • The Event Streaming Platform engineer will assist in Architecting the Event Streaming platforms, designing, and automating the daily operations of the Event Streaming Environments, as well as architecting additional tools for integrating with the Event Streaming environment. In addition, they will work with developers on integrating with the Event Streaming platform, assisting in the design, scale, and tooling of the application.
  • Assist the operations and development staff with questions and support of the environments, as the next level of escalation and work as part of an agile team, continuously striving to automate, improve overall platform availability, and remove extraneous processes from the onboarding process to the platform.
  • Support the existing Event Streaming (Kafka) platforms. Assists in installation of new Event Streaming Services (Kafka) platforms and build best practices and ensures adoption of secure development and automation of development and deployment.
  • Take inputs from Platform Architect (team) to facilitate analytics platform provisioning, maintenance and support and coordinate with platform architect (team) to implement changes to platform configuration and components.
  • Report on the status and operability of existing Event Streaming Services (Kafka) platforms.
  • Ensure adherence to plans and standards by participating in quality management reviews and certify tools for code management, automated testing, platform terraforming and release management and ensure compliance is built in to account for Regulatory & internal policies.
  • Monitor and respond to Event Streaming Services (Kafka) platform failures and bottlenecks.
  • Perform troubleshooting and contact appropriate resources should the need arise.
  • Ensure security and access measures are implemented properly:  authentication, authorization, etc.

What you must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline. Related work experience can be substituted for educational requirement.
  • Experience working with Message Systems such as Kafka and/or streaming engines like Kinesis / EventHub / DataFlow.
  • Knowledge of Agile and DevOps methodologies.
  • Experience designing, deploying, and supporting production cloud environments, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, and private cloud environments.
  • Experience on PCF Containers.
  • Experience on Microsoft Windows and Linux platforms.
  • Experience using GitLab or equivalent CI/CD tools.
  • 1-2 years of operating in Kafka environments.
  • 1-2 years of work experience in Software development, Cloud Security, Cloud Development, and data management.
  • 5 years of work experience in Systems administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of BI / analytics capabilities, techniques, and best practices.
  • Enterprise-class experience implementing and configuring Big Data solutions using Kafka with Cloudera Data Platform.
  • Designing and implementing Kafka solutions, preferably Cloudera or Confluent that include High Availability and Disaster Recovery.
  • Reviewing Monthly Patches and Fixes for Cloudera services.
  • Upgrading Cloudera Manager and Cloudera Data Hub /Cloudera Data Platform to the latest version.
  • Creating automated solutions via scripting and utility development using Ansible, YAML, Salt, and shell scripts.
  • Experience working with multiple teams consisting of a variety of Infrastructure Engineering groups, as well as Development groups and Client Relationship groups.

What would be nice if you had:

  • Experience operating and configuring Java.
  • Experience in the Financial Services industry.
  • Experience with network troubleshooting.
  • Experience in analyzing system failures, identify root causes, and recommended course of action.
  • Experience monitoring and troubleshooting issues with Linux/Unix memory, CPU, OS and storage.
  • Hands-on experience of handling and maintaining the directory structure and the permissions of Linux file systems and HDFS paths.
  • Solid understanding of ITIL methodology and process.
  • Experience with monitoring tools Splunk, DynaTrace, Moogsoft.
  • Experience with integration with databases such as Oracle, MS SQL Server.
  • Experience in Production Support environments and rotational shifts and on-call rotation.
  • Experience with managing certificate.
  • Willingness and capability of quickly learning new technologies required for accomplishing project goals.
  • Willingness and ability to produce high quality operational documentation, including Visio diagrams, high-level descriptions of the environment, as well as detailed instructions outlining the steps required to repeat the configuration of the infrastructure.
